Afghanistan
Fellow Puffers,
I have seen a few threads here and there about sending things to the troops abroad and while I have donated to do this before or given items to someone to ship abroad my best friend called me today and informed me he was deploying. He also included that he didnt want me to send anything and that they would not have the room to carry a lot of items if they were sent. Knowing my friend he hates when anyone lifts a finger to do something for him. Numerous times while visiting a town that I live in he offered to stay in a hotel rather than using one of my spare rooms, its just the type of guy he is. Anyway back to topic. I know that he enjoys cigars I have shared some with him in the past and while I know there are a number of other things that I can send him I would like to include some gars with it. I am concerned however that they may not be able to care for them after they get there so Im debating just how many to sent. Also other than a travel herf-a-do any recomendations as far as pretection during a long shipping? I was thinking of using a cigar box similar to the Ashton box that I use when I travel that has some humicare packs in it. Also how bad is shipping to soliders that are deployed? I have shipped internationally twice and I love my ass to UPS and USPS Im hoping since they are going to soldiers it will be a little better but Im not holding my breath. Unfortunately funds are short right now but I want to make sure that he knows what hes doing is appreciated and that he has a few comforts of home with him while he is in the sandbox. Thanks Steve |

Re: Afghanistan
Steven,
If you wish to ship get a Tupperware that seals .The below are great to use. Stop by your B & M to get some cedar box sleeves. That will keep them in good order and also provide that home away from home smell of fine tobacco products. Depending on how many cigars you will be sending depends on how many water pillows you will need to add. I hope this answers your question. http://order.tupperware.com/coe/app/...r=P10049001970 |

Re: Afghanistan
Having come back from Kabul back in late April, the USPS Priority Mail APO/FPO Flat Rate boxes are the way to go, and sending them to an APO/FPO address is only $11.95 (vs the $13.95 for normal flat rate).
All of the boxes sent to me were received in great condition; just the usual minor transit scuffs. Pack the 'gars in the Tupperware with the humipacks, toss in some travel baby/body wipe packs, some drink mix "on the go" boxes, some hard candy/beef jerky/gum packs, and other travel toiletry items to fill up the space, and send it. |

Re: Afghanistan
I found the Rubbermaid tupperware to be excellent. The 1 Gallon size can be bought for $9-10 at Target or Wal-Mart.
I suggest putting the cigars in large zip-loc bags with some sort of humidification and then putting them in the Rubbermaid. The Rubbermaid is able to take a decent beating if it's inside a backpack or bag. Plus, even if the Rubbermaid cracks, the sealed zip-loc bags should still be able to maintain humidity. |
