Coffee and Cigars...

Well, I just tried this for the first time ever in my 3 years or so of cigar smoking and I feel like smacking myself for not doing it sooner!

I have been puffing on an Alec Bradley Tempus Robusto for about 2 hours and 30 minutes now and I am LOVING it.

I happen to be sipping on a Dazbog caramel machiato type thing.

The coffee complements this cigar(which is almost done) so well, that I think I shall make this a regular thing for me.

However, I am also a big tea drinker and I've noticed all sorts of teas go really well with cigars as well.

Anyone else enjoy this?

Re: Coffee and Cigars...

When I'm not enjoying a nice glass of whiskey with my cigar I like a cup of fresh coffee. I have a bag of an Ecuadorian blend I bought from Leaf and Ale.

Yeah, I think that Sumatra coffee (+2 shots of espresso cream and sugar) is the frickin bomb with almost any cigar. There are a lot of similar flavors. Try it with an Oliva series and you will be hooked.... I love to sit outside the Starbucks and piss off the clog wearing trophy wives.

What kind of teas do you drink with your cigar David? I'm a health nut (that smokes cigars?) and only drink water besides the beers that I enjoy with my sticks. I drink green tea every now and then but don't see that as going well with them. I've been looking for a healthier alternative to beer. Any suggestions?

I enjoy the regular Lipton tea with some honey.. goes well with the cigars I've smoked. Coffee is great too. I've tried an Alec Bradley Maxx the Freak with a vanilla milkshake...wow...what a treat, it just went well together.

I like Twinings English Breakfast (it's not just for breakfast) tea with a cigar.

I'm also a health nut. Beer is healthy. It contains lots of vitamins and minerals with none of the stuff they put in sodas. (Green tea doesn't go with anything. )

Re: Coffee and Cigars...

I love starting my days off with a fine cup of coffee and a good cigar. It is a time to take in the new day and relax.

Re: Coffee and Cigars...

Beer definitely isn't healthy, if you're trying to be health conscious, the chemical make up of that is quite harsh, however something you might want to try would be fruit juice of a sort, as it can compliment a lot of foods, and so reasonably it could also compliment a cigar, however I'd try premium grape-juice first, as for Tea... I can't really think of any off the top of my head that would be a good compliment to a mild blend.

It could just be an acquired taste though...

Re: Coffee and Cigars...

Thanks for the advice B. I've considered fruit juice and almost pick up a bottle everytime I'm at the grocery store but hate to read the label and see how much sugar is in it.
Of course I haven't done much research so maybe there's one out there with not as much.

Coffee (good coffee!) is da bomb (!) with cigars!
I like having my coffee and the Oliva connecticut londonsdale (sp?).

I've also tried an Irish breakfast tea which is quite strong and it goes well too.

I like a good Assam tea with my cigar sometimes. Assam has a caramel-like taste that stands up to a cigar. There are some online tea stores that sell very high quality teas. One I like is based in Seattle; google Seattle Teacup. Or English Tea Store.
I also blend a tea called Smoky Rose which has rose petals as well as several black teas [from my Boulder restaurant days when we served English style Afternoon Tea, . Goes very well with Taboo Limited Reserve Maduro cigars. PM me and I can send you a little sample.
Also, black tea has just as many anti-oxidants as green tea, but tastes better.

Lastly, if you can get some coffee from Puerto Rico it is one of the best with a good cigar. Smooth, with no bitterness.

Any of Lipton's premium teas are good, especially Black Pearl! That particular goes great with every cigar I've had.

I also enjoy the various Tazo teas with my cigars, in fact my usual tea is the Ginger Green Tea that they make. Very tasty.

Re: Coffee and Cigars...

I like coffee with my cigar in the morning.. Otherwise I prefer beer with a couple of large olives and also sangria goes well because it is a sweet wine..

I quit drinking due to some health problems, and I have found that I really enjoy these sparkling, flavored water things you can get at Walmart. They're branded under "Sam's Choice", and I really like them..
If there's a Safeway near you, they sell the same thing, almost, but with mixed flavors (strawberry-kiwi, black/raspberry, etc.) and those are good, too. I like the cherry flavors, they seem to bring out a certain sweetness in the smoke on my palate... They're sugar-free, too. I dunno if you'll enjoy it, but I do.

I should add that they are pretty strongly flavored, so I put them on the rocks and only sip them to clean my palate, or when a cigar gets a little too spicy for me.. Not really like coffee, which I sip constantly to enhance the smoke (and finish it before it gets cold).
