Graycliff's
How do you guys (and gals) like their sticks? I'm thinking of biting on the CAO Soprano deal at CI with a fiver of these, but I don't want to get them if they are just mediocre sticks with a high price tag.
Thanks! |

Re: Graycliff's
They're okay cigars with a high price tag. Some of the line (Crystales) are very tasty, most are just good. I can't afford any, so...

I know the deal your talking about too. I'd pick the Padilla 1932. Very nice smoke, but their boxes are pretty expensive. Rocky Patel Decade is also a good choice. Don Pepin Series JJ Maduro. Those would be my top 3 choices. You gotta be a smart shopper when doing this though. As you can see it lists their MSRP for those 5 cigars. What it doesn't list is the cheapest price you can find it elsewhere. The 5 Vegas Miami's they say "Compare $50!", when you can get a 5 pack of them on cigarbid or for $15-20, or a 10 pack for $30.00. Same with the Graycliff 1666. It says "Compare $100!", but you could find a 5 pack of them somewhere for around $20.00. As for the ones I selected, theres really no good source to get them cheaper. The price they listed for MSRP is pretty much the price for the best deal you could find. The best value there would be the Padilla 1932 imo. Love them. Medium-Full bodied, nice creamy tobacco with a sweet taste to it. The Montecristo's are pretty good deals but I'm not a big Montecristo fan. And the DPG Series JJ Maduro is another great smoke and you wont find deals on these anywhere. |

I've had the 1666 a few times. Every time the construction was terrible.

Re: Graycliff's
I havent smoked too many graycliff cigars. They have been pretty high priced and I never wanted to pay that much. I have tried the 1666 from CI and never had a good stick. Had 2 of them that aged for 2 years and still plugged and nasty. I guess you may want to try to get one at ur local B&M and see how you like it. If not some of the 5 packs already said are great ones to buy with the sopranos deal

Re: Graycliff's
Same here. I have tried a 1666 I got of Cbid for $3. That was the last and only $3 I will spend on a 1666.
I had aquired another 1666 and passed it to a good friend of mine last thursday and he liked it somewhat. Atleast someone got some pleasure out of it. I see Graycliffs can be costly at times, I am trying the lower priced ones and working my way up. If i get to the $6/7 mark and haven't had a decent one then. Well, goodbye Graycliffs.

Re: Graycliff's
There are few brands that I label as "yuck" ... and this was one. It was terrible; flavor, burn, the whole thing. But to each his own, apparently enough folks buy them at that (over)price to keep 'em in business.

Re: Graycliff's
My only experience with Graycliff is their 1666. It's a porly constructed, spongy, bad burning cigar that I'll never get again. They don't even tast good. Don't believe the hype. I'm told that their other stuff is pretty good but I'm not willing to spend a quarter to find out. Tremendous msrp that's always discounted heavily. I'd rather smoke a Garcia Vega machine made.

Re: Graycliff's
1666's arent worthy of the Graycliff name, they arent made at the resort in the Bahamas they are made in a factory in Honduras.. ok with that out of the way...
The Crystals are an awesome blend, not the best blend out there by Graycliff but a really good blend. They get really good with age. If you can score a box of these for under $200 a box on cbid they are worth it. The Chateau Grand Cru is their best blend. One of my top 5 favorite cigars and they are hard to find these days. Should have got two boxes of these last year on cbid when they could be had for under $200 a box. The Espresso line is probably their most popular line, but I think because of that the most recent ones they have put out have been lacking due to rushing them out. If you get them let them sit. They are a good smoke but I rank them #3 in the Graycliff line. The rest are just OK... probably worth around $5 a stick or so if you can get them for that... However, I would NOT pay retail for any of them... Get them on Cbid where you can score a box for under $200 and you'll have yourself a good box of cigars especially if you have the patience to put them away and forget about them for a year. |

Re: Graycliff's
Yeah the Chateau's are the purple band.. the reason why you can find good deals on the 1666's are because they aren't made in the Bahamas which have a heft tobacco tariff which is one of the reasons why Graycliffs are expensive. Oh and the 1666's are crap.

Re: Graycliff's
Yeah. I think its one of those cigars they "expected" to be a real big hit, yet it failed. So they have stock they cannot push so they slash the prices and make it seem like your getting a crazy good deal.

Re: Graycliff's
Construction on the 1666 was horrible, but the taste was good after some age.
The double espresso is the only graycliff that's worth its price tag. The rest are just way overpriced even the crystal, as good as they are, aren't worth the price tag.

Re: Graycliff's
The 1666 is a poor representation of the Graycliff line. If you base your opinion on this cigar and not try the other lines, your missing out on a few good sticks, even at the high price. I prefer the Crystal line and you can find some good deals on CI.
I'd rather pay this high price for a Graycliff then a Gurkha cigar. Paul |

Re: Graycliff's
I love the Chateau Grand Cru. Unfortunately, it is far and away the priciest stick in the Graycliff line. The three I have smoked were (fortunately) gifted to me by a friend - because I could never afford to keep them around. Even the five-packs run as much as many boxes. I have tried several others in the line and find them unremarkable and overpriced. In my book the 1666 doesn't even qualify as a Graycliff. It isn't made by Graycliff's rollers and there is a good reason you can get a bargain price on them. They're okay, but I don't consider them worth even $5 each.
