Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber (what is this?)
What is the full name of this cigar? I got it from the local B&M a week or two ago. The whole box of em were covered in what looked like plume, it wasn't mold, and the cello was definitely aged and old.

GE-Golf Edition. I bought a pack that came with a golf ball divot tool and ball marker plus a free $85 golf swing anaylsis.
HdM has been marketing their larger Excalibur as a golf smoke...will last at least 9 holes. |

Lol! Nice try.
You can't see it but is says "Gener" after Don Jose Gener of HdM, a tour de force of Vuelta Abajo, who founded the brand in Cuba in 1865. You will see "Jose" on the other side of the band. I think I can see slight plume on that stick, but not enough to be sure. Better pics would help. In the end, it doesn't matter. It's all about the taste.

Re: Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber (what is this?)
The full name would be an Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur [Vitola Name]. Honduran cigar, Connecticut wrapper, tastes like nothingness with a hint of donkey balls to me.

In that case I enjoy the flavors of "nothingness with a hint of donkey balls"

I hope you didn't take offense to that, I was giving my opinion and trying to do it in a humorous way.

Re: Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber (what is this?)
LOL! Well, I'll see how this donkey-ball stick tastes in about 5 minutes. Don nailed this on the head. I am going to take my cam with me next time I go to the B&M. There are a few boxes that have tons of plume looks like. I guess that's one good thing about this particular place. Most people use it as a cigarette/pot apparatus store I think... (maybe that was just my high-school experience), but they have a pretty impressive walk-in humi stocked with some pretty well aged inventory, and good variety.

No of course not, I was just trying to imply that I like them using your funny description. Didn't mean to imply I was taking offense.

Agreed.

![]() Quite nice ash. Mild would not quite describe this stick, for that would imply that it actually tasted like something. However, I did taste that hint of donkey-balls. It was like barnyard nasty with a little mustiness. Not my cup of tea for sure! ![]() |

Re: Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber (what is this?)
The "donkey balls" reference comes up with such alarming frequency, I think we may need a new smiley for it. Failing that, maybe we can just find one that looks like Andrew Zimmern. If anyone one Earth knows what donkey balls actually taste like, it would be him. I don't know if he's ever tried to smoke them, or not.
For the blissfully uninitiated, Zimmern is an "adventure eater" for the Travel Channel, here in the U.S. He flies all over the world and eats things most people wouldn't get within 20 feet of, and wouldn't feed a dog.

Re: Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber (what is this?)
Isaac,
I am in a similar boat to yours. One of my BNMs sells hookahs, bongs, mopeds and cigs. They have several boxes of cigars, which are several years old. The thing you have to remember is that only a percentage of cigars actually benefit from age. IMO HdM are not typically one. Mild-medium cigars will simply go flat. Choose stouter blends to buy from that store and you might get something really special.
