Re: Herfing the car?

I don't smoke in the car often, and I have leather seats which I'm sure helps the smell, but heres my ritual for those trips which are long enough to warrant it:

I crack the moon roof to vent everything up through the ceiling.

Turn the A/C to blow only at my feet, make sure it is NOT set to recirculate.

Smoke away.

As soon as I exit the car I take my cigar bobken ash tray with me and empty it. I keep it in the trunk when not in use.

I spray the car with Ozium. And leave it.

I try to make every effort the next day or certainly within two days to have my car washed. I take it to a place where part of the wash in a vacuum inside, and they clean all the windows inside. I pay a yearly membership fee for unlimited washes, the fee is well worth it and I certainly get my money's worth.

My girlfriend has a nose that can smell a single particle of smoke. She can always tel that I have been smoking even if it's been a day since I did. But she has yet to comment once on smoke smell in my car so I guess it works.

Re: Herfing the car?

Leather seats definitely make a difference. Also, I'm not sure about this, but for a neutral, non-masking agent, why not try sprinkling a bit of baking soda on your carpeting, under the seat? Vacuum it out after a few days and you're good to go? I guess I'll have to test this out. You might also try an enzymatic cleaner. I used to sell janitorial supplies and we had this awesome stuff that worked wonders. I can give you info on how to get it if you want.

Re: Herfing the car?

I've smoked in my Jeep several times the smell sticks around for a week with a few sprays of febreeze, ride with the windows down to help air it out, the smell will soon dissipate. If you smelled my Jeep now you'd never know I smoked in it.

Definitely remove all ashes and nubs ASAP. If its something your going to try to get money back out of someday, it might be worth it to get an ozone treatment before selling.

Re: Herfing the car?

I'd be hesitant to smoke in my car. I've smoked in my friends truck (Toyota Tacoma with cloth seats) and aside from the ash that flew back into the car on the freeway, his car smelled of smoke strongly for 4 days and had lingering smell for a week and a half. I think though that the time it smelled could have been cut down by spraying lysol or feebreze into the vents and cab and airing the car out better. If you really want to smoke my advice would be to get the wind guards for your windows and crack all the windows you can with the air on high.

Really? Wow, I think I will have to try that out. I've always wanted to smoke in my car but have been afraid of the lingering cigar smell. It actually makes sense as I've "heard from people" that other types of illegal smoke... can be blown through fabric sheets to take the smell away.

Can't wait till my next long drive!

I may convert a room but I'm lazy and wouldn't want to invest in a truly good air circulation system, and something that truly seals the room off from the rest of the house.

I've seen some pretty nice sheds in my day! Only thing is I would be banishing myself, but I just wouldn't want my house to constantly smell like smoke.

One of those real nice, shingled sheds...hook her up with some e-lectricity, get a heater in there...shoot, TV...might become a decent fortress of solitude.

Re: Herfing the car?

So I smoke in my truck about 4 days a week, while driving to work. Here is what I do. I crack my driver side window, not much, enough you can knock your ash out the window. Do not let any of the other windows down. Now turn on the A/C, make sure to put it well its blowing to the floor only. You will be amazed rather your on the freeway or parked how this well blow all the smoke out the little opening of your window. Now I don't do anything else expect maybe drive with all windows cracked the next morning on my way home. So I do have cloth seats in my truck, only every once in a while will there be cigar odor in my truck. It works very well.

Re: Herfing the car?

I'm so tempted to do this. I have a 40 minute one way commute each day. It'd be an easy thing to get in a smaller smoke, or take a larger one to the garage once I got home. But, while it doesn't happen very often, I do have people ride with me and many of them wouldn't appreciate it. 999 out of 1000 drives it'd never be a problem, but I don't want to have my car smell like my boss's van - the inside of an ashtray sitting since the mid 80's.

Re: Herfing the car?

Joshua follow what myself and hmbddd said and you will have no problem. The only time anybody really even knows I have smoked in it is when they get right after I have smoked. Besides it is your car not everybody else. I don't even use any air freshener or anything to try and cover it up, just crack the driver sid ewindow and put the AC on the floor. It works.
