Re: A Rant/Convo starter about Nub,Cain, and Sam L.

The Nub Habano is one of my favorite smokes, very complex and the perfect amount of spice.

Not trying to sound like a prick, but since it's in the back of you're mind that Nub was a marketing gimmick from the jump, that it had a psychological effect on your take on the cigars? At the same time, everyone has different tastes.

I agree the whole "sweet spot" theory is bullshit, but I think it was a ballsy move. Some people judge a cigar on just it's band, let alone a fat midget cigar. Hats off to Sam for thinking different. This was some regular guy from the states who made himself famous in the cigar world with a clever idea and some good smokes.

I've been noticing a trend over the past few years, it seems like it's the cool thing to hate or bash anything that has hype or popularity.

I will be the first to admit that i tried the cain maduro based on all the reviews that I have read. Have to say that I enjoyed them enough to buy a box. Not really in the marketing, just finding good cigars to smoke.

I smoke the NUB Habano and Maduro way before i knew anything about the brand or their marketing gimics and i thought they were great.

I dont give a rats ass about who made a cigar, how or where they roll it, or what kind of lingo they use to sell it..... i smoke what i like..... end of story.

BADABINGO!!!

I like both... Although I will admit that I wished the Nub would last a bit longer..... It's a bit of a tease to me, but good!!!!

SO when nub first came out, me and my buddies all wrote it off as a big gimmick, which is a beleif that we all stand by. Most of the guys have tried Nub and all agree that they are OK cigars but in general they're just a marketing machine that get WAY more attention then they deserve.

Now that cain cigars are coming out, we all feel the same way. It's like just another marketing ploy by Sam L. Not to talk bad on Sam because he's just doin what he can to make a buck, but it seems like everything he comes out with has to have some kind of 'angle' that he can market the shit out of. Dont get me wrong, it's great business and he's a smart guy for it.

I just felt like rambling about this since I see everyone so excited about the release of cain cigars. Im wondering if anyone else out there feels the same way? or is everyone attracted to the modern, trendy ads and "Rebel Without a Cause" Marketing angle.
Have you tried either of the Cains yet Dom? Just curious if you have or if you just think it's all hype and don't want to try them because of it. I have only tried the Habano but thought it was a great cigar. I respect your opinion, but was just curious if you tried them yet...

I think I saw some Cain cigars in my B&M. Do they have like a weird foot with loose tobacco? interested in trying one some time.

Yeah that sounds about right hehe. Stopped in for a few minutes saw 3 diff boxes of different wrapper ones. Real small bands on them.

Kristoff sounds familiar though so I figure it was that.

Interested in trying the Cain though, any pics of them? I'm a general fan of Oliva Cigars.

Re: A Rant/Convo starter about Nub,Cain, and Sam L.

For the record I HAVE tried a nub and I HAVE tried the Cain Habano.

Like I said earlier, they're by no means bad cigars, infact I really enjoy the nub cameroon, but my general distaste mirrors what madurolover said earlier. Why not just market them as small fat cigars?? Why the whole ploy about sweet spot? I'd take a Serie G cameroon over a nub cameroon any day. Oliva markets the serie G so much classier, just letting ratings and general quality do the talking, so when they have to make up some huge marketing scheme to sell the nub it just seems weird.

The Cain I didn't like but that's because i'm really not a fan of habano wrappers so that was just a personal thing.

Also, just to clear any suspicion, my favorite cigar is the Oliva Serie G toro so it's def. not an Oliva thing.

Re: A Rant/Convo starter about Nub,Cain, and Sam L.

I'm not too into the Nub line, but I do like the Cain's that I have had.

As my other post stated, "I can't give you an official review because my palette isn't there yet, but there are 2 things that make me go back and buy more - 1)Taste and 2)burn consistency. This cigar was great in both."

Just my taste and 2 cents.

Like others said. I smoke what I like as well.

Sure the marketing does seem a bit out there. But what company hasn't had extreme marketing campaigns throughout their career. Cigar companies and non-cigar companies. Subway, McDonalds, Walmart...etc.

Guys, guys guys! Let's try and refrain from all the cussing and flaming? That being said, I may go look for a Cain at my local B&M today. BRB! LOL!
