Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

I just recently found a B&M/Lounge here in Baltimore and my first choice was a RP 1992 Toro, and let me tell you, it was a great choice. I didn't know that cigars this wonderful existed! I just thought I'd share my revelation with my friends here!

The RP 1992 is indeed a great cigar. If they have it try the 1990 RP vintage. Another great one

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

They did have the 1990, and I tried it and liked it far less. It may have just been a bad one- the wrapper split near the cap when I cut it and because of that I got far less smoke, so I had to smoke it faster to keep it lit. The whole ordeal resulted in a very harsh, overly-peppery smoke.

The Rocky Patel Vintage lines are very solid smokes in my opinion. Rocky Patel definitely makes some damn good cigars. I personally prefer the 1990 over the 1992 but its still good to hear you enjoyed yours.

I am a big 1990 R.P. fan. I have recently found out and shown myself the advantage of aging. Even two months can make a big difference. I definately prefer the 1990 to the 92. What are the factors. I am not sure. The 92 is a decent cigar to me, but the 1990 is what my taste buds like.
I had my wife take cigars, age them for two months, and then when I got a new supply(humidored for two weeks), would give me a blind taste test of the two smokes and 6 out of 8 times I knew which was which. Especially on the R.P.s
Thus I seem to look out for them and buy them a bunch at a time just to set down for years to come.
I will soon be looking for a 300-500 count, just to lay down r.p. cigars, with probably about 80 percent of them to be r.p. vintage 1990 churchills.
I usually get them from 3-4 dollars a piece on special.
Much regards Jerry

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

I hadn't thought about the possibility of aging the '90 additionally in my humidor. From what I remember of the stick, I could certainly see it benefiting from aging a bit at home, it would really mellow out those flavors that sort of punched me in the face last time I smoked one. I'll have to give it a try.

RP 90's and 92's are terrific. Give the 90 another try. It had to be a bad stick.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

Those RP's were my favorite cigar when I started smoking about three years ago. I got a good deal on a bunch, and was very pleased. Lately I have moved on to other brands, maybe its time to give them a revisit.

This is the time of year I like to stock up, not smoking as much in the winter allows me to age all my stock at least 4 or 5 months, and I find just about any cigar benefits with a little age.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

I'll have to give them another try too. My first impression was...ehh..then a geeze a little harsh, followed by yeech.
But, as others have pointed out, sometimes it takes a few months to get the best out of a cigar.

And, I freely admit that I tried the 92 only after a few days of receiving them. So it was possibly just that they needed to settle.

I put the R.P. Vintage [90 and 92] in my top 10 list but to me all other offerings fall short of the mark.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

I like the Vintage 90 over the 92 myself and use to smoke almost nothing but RP cigars. For the last couple of years I have been smoking more brands to get a taste of the new blends and brands and some are hit and miss. In the last month Jerry has turned me onto the place he lives by and I have found a new blend that really fills that tobacco taste I have always craved. The prices are great and the cigars are really good. Jerry gets my vote for Cigar Mayor should he ever decide to run.

I love the 92. My 2 cents: Its the best stick by far at its price point.

Thanks Gary, but I do not accept the nomination. I might have too many skeletons in my closet. LOL
And I do not want to be hated. Is there a salary involved?????I might reconsider.....
I think I am going to store on this wednesday and pick up a couple of those republicas. I cant get the smell out of my mind. Let me know when you get your churchill order . I would like to see how it goes.

Much regards your friend Jerry

I would have to agree the 92 robusto and the sungrown torpedo have been my go to for a few years now.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992

Well, like I said, I got these at a lounge in downtown Baltimore, so I have no idea how long they were aged before I bit into one, but the 92 I had was far superior to the 90. I found that the 92 was very mild towards the beginning and tended to get fuller and sweeter as the stick burned; while the 90 was very peppery from the beginning and the flavor only multiplied and harshened as the stick burned. Certainly not ideal.
