Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
I do the lemon and water thing when I'm trying a new cigar (which is almost every cigar I smoke...noob here!). I have tried scotch (mmmmmmmmmmmm), and Coke Zero (both with and without Appleton's VX rum) and both worked well also.

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
I enjoy simple ice water to cleanse my palate. Don't like to drink alcohol when I smoke. I do it at the bars but I prefer the water.

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
Lately I've been drinking IZZE sparkling Clementine, which seems to be a good palate cleanser. It's a tart orange sparkling fruit juice that is not sweet. The Pomegranate is good too.

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
What about decaf coffee? I'm about to start getting into coffee, but just decaf. I've been looking for something non-alcoholic to quaff with my sticks and decided coffee would go quite well (thinking about different teas too).
It will be especially good when it starts to get cold out. It does contain small amounts of caffeine but I'm ok with a little (roughly 5-15mg/cup as opposed to 90-9999mg ![]()

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
Anything crisp, like tonic or mineral water, that will abrade your palate a little and clear out the less-defined flavors is a good idea. Sometimes a cool, sweet drink complements a sweeter cigar on a nice hot evening.
Often times I just enjoy a tall, cool glass of plain water. Doesn't cleanse the palate quite as much as something carbonated, but it is utterly unintrusive and will refresh a dried out palate better than anything. |

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
Drinks that bring out flavor? Coffee. By all means. But bourbon and rum seem to go particularly well if you're alcoholic. Not *an* alcoholic by any means, but you know what I mean.

First really crisp night of the season, and I'm on the back porch with a CAO Cx2 and a mug of hot chocolate...or I may just be in heaven!

Hmm some interesting ideas here. I drink a few different things with cigars, some more often than others.
Water Beer Coffee Root Beer/Cream Soda Scotch Wine (usually Merlot)

Non-Alcoholic: Diet Coke
Beer: Yuengling Lager Liquor: Wild Turkey & water All depends on what I'm in the mood for. Most often it is the diet coke though. |

Re: Beverages that bring out the flavors
For serious tasting, which I usually do anytime I am trying a completely new cigar, I prefer water with just a squeeze of lemon in it. This is the best thing I have found to refresh your palate.
Just make sure that whatever you are drinking is not super cold as that will numb the palate a bit. If I am drinking something with ice in it I will wait for my mouth to warm back up before drawing on th cigar. When I am just smoking I like Coke Zero
