Had a 5er of the non-pepin non-ee's from a few months ago. Only one remains, and I'm saving it for a lucky victim. If Pepin could improve on this smoke, I'd be surprised. Please let us know as soon as they're prepped and ready for the firestorm!

Re: La Aroma, Pepin blend

I burned my first one yesterday and was underwhelmed. Not a bad cigar, and I think the price point is fair, but this lacked the characteristic Pepin punch.

Maybe I jumped the gun, and generally I try to let new arrivals rest for at least a week before smoking, so hopefully things may improve with some time in the vault.

The contruction looked good, and it is a nicely heavy and dense cigar. This one canoed pretty significantly and needed a pretty major correction. After that it burned evenly through to the end.

Flavor wise it was really very muted. I prefer full bodied smokes, so it may just not be my thing. Next time out I'll pull one out earlier in the day.

Just looked this up on Holt's. This new blend has a Connecticut wrapper, I'm guessing that is why you didn't get the full on Pepin taste or a fuller body cigar. Not to many Connecticut wrappers have a full body taste or strength to it. Pepin makes some nice cigars with Connecticut but they are far from full body smokes.

Re: La Aroma, Pepin blend

I hear you, but I was thinking the combination of Nicaraguan filler and binder with the CT wrapper would have a little more oomph. Advertised as Med-Full. I found that a bit overstated.

Not sure what the wrapper is on the Casa Magna, but thats a much more flavorful Pepin journey to the mild side than the La Aroma IMO. And again, I still need to revisit these with a bit more rest. They may just be a little damp.

Nope, I think you hit it on the head. The LA EE is not what I would call a classic Pepin nor is there a lot of flavor. The San Cristobal that's also blended by Pepin for Ashton is much better. More full bodied.

Pipe, I'm talking about the new blend. The EEs are different, and I think are definitley more full bodied than the straight reblended LAs.

And in my former post I meant Casa Royale, not Casa Magnas. And it turns out they're wrapped with an Esteli Sungrown.

Ah. I haven't tried the new blend yet. Curiously though, you described the old (?) EE blend as well in my opinion.

I'll have to skedaddle down to the old B&M's and see what they've got.

The whole things just quite a problem.

I have a couple EEs, so now I'm going to have to track down some of the original blend to compare all three.

A very enjoyable quandry.
