Most disappointing stick?

Let me preface this by saying that I am sure this has been done ad nauseum. I do not feel like searching, I am in a bad mood.

I just spent 85 minutes with a God of Fire 2006 Don Carlos Double Robusto. I checked email. I reflected on the entertaining Texas Tech-UH game. I plotted my fantasy NFL team for tomorrow. I made a shopping list. At no point did I actually ENJOY the very expensive burning tobacco in my hand. It was not bad so much as completely uninteresting. I enjoy a mellow smooth cigar, but this was like inhaling nothing. Those that say that $ should not be indicative of experience are wrong. If this is a $5 stick, I stop smoking at about 15 minutes and launch it over the fence at my neighbor's yipping dog. But as it was a $20+ stick, I smoked that flavorless thing to the nub. Not the worst cigar I've ever had, I once described the experience of smoking an Acid Kuba Kuba as akin to having a cow crap in my mouth. It was not actively bad, but completely nothing.

Who else has been totally let down?

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Wow, I'm sorry. I've heard the same about this cigar before. The biggest dissapointment for me so far was a 2001 Partagas Lusitania. No taste whatsoever. Not even any body. Put it down a short while in for something else.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Well, IDK if you read my little HdM Excalibur experience, Patrick, but that thing sucked. Tasted like donkey-balls. However, I'd have to say the cigar that really disappointed me tho MOST was the CAO L'Anniversaire Cameroon. It was not a good Cameroon flavor... For the price I paid for it, I could've gotten 2 8-5-8's and had much better a time. I'm sorry to hear about your experience, especially since that is one hefty bank-breaking stick.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

I feel your pain in that how many of us have paid top dollar for a premium cigar only to have it disappoint us. Mine was the Diamond Crown Maximus that I had about 2 months ago that I had tucked away for 4 years. This was my second try for this cigar only because it is touted as a great cigar. Each one tasted like rolled up paper towels and I wish that I had the money back I paid for these "pigs in a blanket" but that is what happens sometimes.

LOL, donkey balls. I won't even ask you how you would know as I have used this term myself and I haven't even gotten close to knowing what the real ones taste like.

I had the same experience with the 2006 Don Carlos, very lame cigar.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

For me it was Montecristo. Ive tried a couple of different ones and purchased from different BMs. Four sticks overall and the draw in each was way too tight for my enjoyment. The single onetimer that was a dissappointment was an Ashton. It split from the biginning. Have not had one do that before or since, but for that period of time it was very frustrating. BTW I really enjoyed the flavor of both the Monty and the Ashton.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Mine was a Trinidad that I got in a sampler I bought online. Tasted like hay. I'll never ever buy a NC Trinidad so long as I live because it was so bad! I only smoked about an inch of the thing it was so disappointing!

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Mine was an AF Hemingway Signature natural. Absolutely nasty. So bad, it turned me off to the nats altogether.

So sorry about the DC GoF, Patrick! I just smoked a Carlito tubo from the same year and it couldn't have been better. Based on the advice of my GoF maven (CMA ) I'm sticking to Carlito on these.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Just had one yesterday,,,a Ghurka Warlord,, huge cigar tried to enjoy it with friends on the patio,, it cracked, split, had a poor draw and died on me several times and this cigar was definitely not over humidified.. Tell you what,,, I used to be a Ghurka lover but after having this and a few Beasts and Titans I am not impressed by their top o the line cigars..

Jerry in Minnesota.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

Mine was the RP Decade. It wasn't even close to the worst cigar I've ever had but because of the ratings and what other people had to say about them I was really looking forward to a great cigar. It just didn't taste that great to me. I could have chosen a dozen cigars that would have been better. I have a couple more that I am letting rest until next year to see what happens.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

What about really expensive sticks with faulty construction? A friend of mine went with me to our local B&M and picked up a $20 Kristoff sick, when he took the cedar off of the body, he saw that a good 2 inch portion of the wrapper was simply not there. I would've expected higher quality control at that price.

+1 on the Ghurkas, I bought a sampler and have yet to find one I like. I usually don't even finish them.

A cow who's been on a strict diet of sweet tea and sugar cane!

That's the most accurate description of an Acid Kuba Kuba I've ever read.

Re: Most disappointing stick?

I was going to mention the two, and only two, Perdomo's I've tried. But I won't since I just trashed a Graycliff 1666 that was thoroughly disappointing. Talk about leaving a certain taste behind after it's long gone! I love the regular red label Graycliff and should have stopped with that one.
