Do you respect your inlaws house rules when you are there? Wouldn't it be propper for them to respect yours while under your roof?

Also, remember the old saying, "Fish and houseguests start to stink after three days"?

Think I am just joining the chorus here, but a week? Step outside and smoke if you want to. If they don't like it, then they can stay inside with your wife for the hour or so that it takes you to have some peace. You can't be expected to play the helpful host for the entire 7 days, and not take an hour to yourself for what ever you may choose. And by being an adult, you have the freedom to do as you choose at your house. But, do it outside!

If you like them and they dislike the smoke, excuse yourself to the garage and/or outside and do your thing. If they dislike you, then forget about them and smoke up My MIL doesn't like cigar smoke and used to make it well known, but when she asks me to get something out of her car, I make sure I leave it smelling like a fine cigar.

Re: Inlaws Are Here....No Smokin!!!

Just to clear things up, I don't smoke inside at all. When the inlaws are here we spend a lot of time together(good people) so out of respect I don't light up when they are present. Yes I can excuse myself and slip away for a cigar somewhere else and have done so. Just wanting to hear others views on the matter.

Sounds like a good excuse to light up a petite corona and go for a long walk.

Re: Inlaws Are Here....No Smokin!!!

respect? how is it disrespectful to smoke? arent your inlaws from the era where smoking was very common and not even considered a problem? you would think they would be the most understanding about smoking compared to the new age of anti smoking people.

They are sensitive to the smoke(breathing issues).....and yes they both used to smoke years and years ago.

Re: Inlaws Are Here....No Smokin!!!

I admire your courtesy!

If they were living there full time I would go with the "my house, my rules" line of thought. Since they are only visiting I think you are going about things the right way. As previously said, if you want a smoke just get a Petit Corona and take a walk or go to the local shop/hangout. I am sure they would not mind.
