Inlaws Are Here....No Smokin!!!

Out of respect for the in- laws I don't smoke cigars when they are here. They will be nesting for a week and I will find other areas to herf if I can get away.
What are your thoughts on the matter.

I think you are a good man. I would do the same. Make your guests feel as comfortable as you can. Isn't that what you would want if you were staying at someones house?

I know some people will disagree but that is my opinion.

My In-laws don't really stay at my house since the only live less than 2 hours away. But we hang out during the day and I'll have my smokes while we talk. Outside of course. They don't say anything and we always have a good time.

I smoke out on the back deck when my in-laws are here. But they only live an hour away, so they don't stay a whole week. Usually when I go out to have a smoke, they all follow me, so we're all out on the deck!! But they know I respect them enough to go outside and that adds points to my pass card from my wife

I smoke outside anyway, but it's my house. Do what you think is right. I've had the same in-laws for twenty-four years and my mother-in-law still doesn't know what to think of me.

You are an accommodating host...I suppose I would be, too, if it were only for a while. I don't smoke indoors anyway, but any guests of mine during the summer would have to put up with smoke if they wanted to join me on the porch in the evening!

Well, I think its a nice thing for you not to smoke around your in laws. However, what would be the problem with slipping outside or into your garage or something for a smoke.
Doesnt make sense to me,are you hiding your smoking from the in laws?
Is this a marrriage peace keeping thing.
Im divorced as well, so pay no attention to me. Just curious.

While it is a very gracious thing to take the feelings of your in laws into consideration, you should remember that you are in YOUR home and as such the rules are made by you. My wife is the one who makes the biggest fuss in such situations. Jewelry often makes that go away.

Having said that. I have the same rule here. Except that I step out to the porch for a smoke and oft times start a new social event in the process. Funny how people who don't smoke and like to complain just seem to gravitate to a good cigar. Same goes for the pipe. They either want to come outside to complain about my smoking those old smelly things, or I smoke an aromatic in the pipe and they just want to smell the tobacco for a few minutes (read that as until the pipe is ashed) while playing twenty questions about the kids, job, personal ilfe, etc.

Sorry, I dont get it either! If I go to someones home, I respect their ways. I dont stogie at a non smoking home and I dont drink at a friends home who doesnt drink. At my home, I am going to herf and BBQ with a beer in my hand and they can too.

This is so true...im not going to do anything different because they are at MY house...if they dont like it, they can leave for all I care...
