Celebratory cigar..

If you had the choice and cost was not a factor, what's the one cigar that you'd smoke to celebrate the birth of your fist child?

My first will be born in November and I'm trying to decide on a good celebratory smoke.

Thanks!

Eric

Re: Celebratory cigar..

I don't think I would just buy an "expensive" or "new to me" stick to celebrate with unless I knew I liked it. If its a celebration, I would like for everything to be fun, nice, and pleasing. A bad stick wouldn't ruin my day but it wouldn't help it out either; especially if I paid good money for it.

I would get your favorite of all time cigar and go with that. No matter the cost or what So-n-so says about it. Everyones tastes are different. Thats why there are so many different blends out. If you haven't enjoyed cigars much, its a good idea to get a census. But I suggest to get a stick that you really like that you don't get too much.

I have an Opus in my humi but if I ever had a newborn; I'd grab the Oliva Serie V Special Figurado next to it.

Price means nothing............. its all about taste!

100% agreed. While reading this I was wondering why everyone always seems to point to some expensive or rare stick. I would likely smoke one of my fav's, or 2!

Re: Celebratory cigar..

I agree that price isn't always a good barometer of quality, but I haven't smoked a whole lot of the "upper quality" sticks, since I've been on such a short budget for the life of my ~3 month smoking career. My favorites have been the Oliva Series G, Tobacos Baez Series SF, and I had a Padron #2000 that I really liked. I've been thinking of trying all or a couple of the "step ups" to these. The Oliva V or O (I think), the Tabacos Baez or My Father (suggested in my introduction post), or the Padron 64. I think I'll also go ahead and buy an Opus X and age it for a year and smoke it on his first birthday.

Re: Celebratory cigar..

If you like the tobacos baez then the my father wouldn't be a bad idea. Also you know you won't be disappointed by any of the following:

Opus X
Padron 80th Maduro
Oliva Serie V
Any Davidoff

Re: Celebratory cigar..

I think any cigar is more special when you know that it was specifically set aside for these special moments. Congrats on the baby! My advice is to get a box of something you love and keep it. Smoke one or possibly two a year (birthday, graduation) or everytime your kid does something special. When you smoke that stog you will always think of your kid and you can do some reflecting. Also- after a few years you'll have some nice aged sticks.

Good call,

and on a similar note what I always say I'm gonna do if and when I ever have a kid is put aside a box of my faves at the time and dont crack it open till his 17th or 18th bday

Re: Celebratory cigar..

I would smoke an Opus as I always know how this cigar is going to smoke. Whenever I have important events in life that are going on I usually have a great cigar that seems to cement that memory.

Re: Celebratory cigar..

One of the tastiest smokes I ever enjoyed was the Cohiba Secretos Maduro. When I buy a box for my first-born, to smoke one a year on B-days... that'll be the stick!

Re: Celebratory cigar..

Lots of good advice here.
If it were me, I would get a box of Vegas Robaina Famosos. That cigar has become my birthday cigar. I would save most of the box and smoke some with my kid when he turns 18. Of course I'm hoping we could have some great bonding times sharing a birthday cigar.

Re: Celebratory cigar..

If you enjoyed the Padron 2000, I'd go with the Padron 64 Maduro in a large size, maybe the Diplomaticos (7" x 50)... Depending on how well you tolerate nicotine, of course! You don't wanna be sick from your celebration cigar!

Any one of the PAMs in any size you feel comfortable with would be a great choice for a celebration, IMHO. The 1926 is a little more spicy and stout, I think...

BTW, congratulations!!!
