Problem with some cigars in humidor
I have a problem in one of my 50 count humidors.
It has been going now for 3 months, and holds the humidity at a rock solid 67rh. It has one divider. The left side is filled with half coronas- all from altadis.(uppman, r and j, montes) The right side has about 25 of the thompson cheapos that came with humidor. (V.S. Bohemian, Cuban corojo, and tc green labels) They are all corona sized. Yesterday I was doing my normal humidor checking, (i have eight humidors going at this point) and I found that a whole bunch of the cigars on the right side of humidor(the thompson cheapos) the wrapper were getting dry and almost crispy. The cigars themselves were pliable and felt nice, but it seems the wrappers had gotten very dry. i can see a bunch of little tobacco bits underneath them, and about two of them are unsmokable now because it lost too much wrapper as the head. Almost like the caps came off. Just wondering why these are going bad.??? They arent terrible smokes, and use them for handouts. much regards Jerry |

Re: Problem with some cigars in humidor
I guess we would really need to know a couple of things: namely, are you using beads? Is your rH reading from a digital hygrometer?

I have never used beads. I have found that the various credos in the humidors(they are sized from 20 counts to 150 counts) all seem to do a superior job if maintened with care. Any thing you can tell me would be appreciated. Do you need some photos? Much regards Jerry |

Re: Problem with some cigars in humidor
Sounded like an inaccurate humidity reading to me at first but from the sounds of things that solution is out the window. If the other sticks in the same humidor seem unaffected I can only chalk it up to some defective sticks. Since I just started my own humidor not that long ago I will leave it up to the veterans here on the boards to give you more informed ideas. Good luck.

Re: Problem with some cigars in humidor
Thats kinda weird because I have some of those tc green labels (londsdale I think) a couple months back from t'son and I pulled one out earlier (no cello) and noticed how flakey the outer wrapper became after clipping the end(inside tabacco reaked of amonia!). A couple of the others that I pulled out (in cello) were not quite as bad but still fragile. I dont remember the one I tried as soon as I got the package to be like they are now.... Bad sticks or quality issues??? BTW my humi uses %65 beads and holds rock steady,I love those things.
