Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
Well I had this kuba, kuba, resting in its own humidor for about 2 months. I had some type of fantasy about this cigar and its smell, that it would give me some type of sureal cigar smoke that I have never achieved before. An outer body experience
![]() So today, I carelfully remove it from its humidor ,stuck it in my shirt pocket(cellophane still on) and went to my truck and placed it in my cigar caddy for the drive to the park. I was getting giddy just thinking about smoking this cigar. I felt like a man of my age was doing something very "naughty". LOL. And I have done some naughty things in my life. So I get to the park, and walk to the top of a rock. Nice cool windy day, nobody around. Just me, the newspaper, a bottle of water, and my kuba kuba. I took the kuba kuba out, and took one more sniff of it. What is that smell? coming through the wrapper? If that aroma spreads, will people think I am smoking something"special" ? Well I go to take the wrapper off, and the first thing I notice, is the wrapper seems to be a bit thicker and wrapped tighter around the head and foot then most cigars. Now maybee its my losing lack of agility in my fingers, but I had to bite a bit of the celophane to start to get the cigar out. It finally came out, and I gave it a good feel. It felt heavy and dense, almost stiff, but you could feel it was pliant. Immediately I could see and feel it was a really well constructed cigar. I give it a guollitine cut, and it cut real nice and sharp. I dont remember a cigar cutting this well. I gave it a toast, and then brought it to my mouth for a kiss. I examined the end and realized it needed another toast. A quick toast of an edge, and she was going nicely. I then gave my first true puff, and I couldnt believe it. I never smoked a flavored cigar, and was not expecting a sweetened end. It was so syrupy sweet, almost to be nauseating. I said to myself, I hope this is not sweetened to disguise bad tobacco. So I got overmyself and started to settle down and smoke the kuba. Right away, I could tell this cigar was very cool, and very very mild. Very smooth taste, mostly of cedar. I was really enjoying the tobacco, but hateing the sweetened tip. I found myself licking my lips after each puff, and thought that this would start to irritate my lips after a while. Well the first half went by in about a half an hour, with this delicious mild cedar smoke passing through. I hated the sweet tip(which never went away, much to my chagrin), but was really digging the cigar. Maybee because I was outside, the aromas of the kuba, kuba, that I have been smelling for the last two months were not there. Everything was the same till the second half, when the only change seemed to me was some spice added to it. Just a nice touch, not too much. No nicotene high, which I appreciated. I kept wishing there was no swettened tip. About two thirds through the kuba, and its about 45 minutes. I decide to put it out, because I wanted to open it up and check its construction, which I do with all new cigars to me. The construction to this cigar plebian, seemed to be one the best constructed cigars I have had the pleaure to take apart. Eveything was equal, and density was great. Tobacco smelled great, and wrapper, binder and filler, were dense, packed, but a nice even draw, even with that density. Kudos to whoever rolled this cigar. I thought to myself, darn, this is a real good mild cigar. Reminds me of what I expect from a macanudo, when a mac is made correctly. If they made this without the sweetened tip, I would definatley buy a box of these, but I would prefer a slighlty smaller ring. Maybee a 44 or 46. I also loved the large double cigar band. . It was firm, and easy to take off when the time came. The ring felt quality made. So there it is, as it may be for me. Kuba, Kuba, a darn good smoke, but get rid of that sweetened cap. Do all acids have that? If so I shant be buying any more to smoke. Regards Jerry |

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
Glad you liked it, (I think). Because I am familiar with the post you made about Acid recently, I will continue to say that yes, in the Acid Tin, all but the Ming had that sickly sweet tip. On half of them, this sweetness actually worked well. I also will say that of all the cigars I have smoked (fewer than many) the Acid brand is truly amazing in construction. Even the varieties that I detested were phenomenally wrapped. So you were right on with that assessment. I wish I had one of those instead of the Kuba Maduro.

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
This one is kind of a continental divide stick. You are one way or the other. Did not suit my palette. Well built and nice burn. The friend that recommended this to me said it was like no other stick he had ever tasted. He was not wrong.

First the whole thing smoked with just two taps, and those were difficult to get off. And the ash, was a dark grey on the outside, but dark grey to black inside. Never seen such a distinct two tone as thus. Usually there is some mottleling(spelling) of the colors, but I think this is do to the superior construction. DOES ANYONE KNOW if any of the drew estates non acids, use similar tobaccos, or similar in taste, without that darned cherry herring or whatever tip. Much regards Jerry |

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
Jerry, try some of the Drew Estate Natural line, they use tobacco very similar if not the same, only there is NO sweetened cap. There are a few other acids that aren't sweetened but I cant think which ones they are for the life of me.
Definitely give some of the Naturals a go, I think it may be just what your looking for.

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
Tried my first Acid - a Kuba Kuba late Thursday night thanks to Ray. I won't go into a lot of detail rehashing what Jerry has spelled out so well. I was really impressed with the construction, but didn't care for the taste. The smell reminded me of the incense the resident potheads used to cover their tracks in the dorm in college! The taste was better than the smell, but I kept wanting to taste more of the tobacco and couldn't get around the cloying sweetness. I smoked it well past the band and it did get better when the "sweet" off the cap was gone.
I will try some of the Drew Estates Natural Line because of the Kuba Kuba, but not another flavored one! |

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
I had one of these last week, and just couldn't get over the sweetness. It was like the end was dipped in saccharine. Ended up tossing it halfway through and lighting up a 5 vegas miami to get the taste out of my mouth.

Re: Finally tried an acid kuba kuba
I can't get thru the sweet tip as I've tried several of these cigars. Tobacco just isn't supposed to have that syrupy taste to me. Flavor infused cigars have never really appealed to me esp. with an artificial taste to them. There are others in the Acid line that others swear by,,,the Acid Roam comes to mind as they say this cigar is very creamy to the taste.
