Very nice thread Jerry. I'm a total noob here, yet even on my first post
I was never made to feel that way. I can't say that about some other forums I used to visit.

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

Totally agree! I was thinking the same thing the other day when I headed for a certain guitar forum. Nothing can be said or asked without someone putting you down. Every request for information is met with a rude call to use the search function. I go there when I need to, but not for fun. I come here because I enjoy the company, the discussions and especially the lack of attitude. Even the folks here that get under my skin, and there aren't many, I could probably have a beer and smoke with. 90% of the members on the guitar site, I would punch in the back of the head. Good job everyone and thanks to Jerry for bringing it up!

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

Been debating all night on whether I should post up my feelings about this...

I will probaly be agreed with for the most part but I will rub a few wrong..but those who know me know I really dont care either way...

I have been a member of this forum for lil over 2 yrs...seen alot of changes..some good, some bad but for some reason I keep coming back....Why....Because this is HOME.

From Day 1 I have been welcomed and been accepted no matter my knowledge, race, age or anything..I have been an equal. I hope I treat everyone I come in contact the same.

I went through the "Change" and still waiting for the sky to fall and Jon to grow horns and sell all our souls for money (this is a joke..no one ever said those things about Jon!) Those who decided to stay have become some close friends and I see no reason I need to go anywhere else. I do belong to other forums but none are HOME.

I was told awhile back "Its not the Forum its the People" and I completely agree.

Thank you Jerry for finding time to spread your knowledge here and to all the others who make this a great place.

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

OMG
I have an opinion on everything But this topic hits home big time, I'm a relatively positive generous person and always somehow in the shit.

I belong to other forums and this one forum is exactly like the original poster mentioned, On this forum I fronted several hundred $ to a couple young ladies and yeah you know I never got paid back. in the end it was like I don't owe you because of this or that and finally I said enough lets split the the blame three ways and each of you donate $ to this charity in my name and all agreed. I had no blame except I loaned them money BTW.

After one of their friends started rumors and it goes on and on. Not a story I expect you to follow except the part about. This Place!

I have loved the fact that this is positive and no one is anything but generous and helpful as well as positive. I now check in daily and am starting to trade and look forward to a long tradition of positive people and thoughts.

Thanks You All!!

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

OK, I am VERY new to this board and in short order I have almost 100 posts, getting the return volley of a noob sampler trade.....awaiting directions for a "surprise bomb" somebody is putting together and all this on a forum that is dedicated to a hobby that I just picked up.
I have been a memeber of another board for several years and do not have as many posts as I do here. This is about the most welcoming board I have ever seen and I think I would have to agree with an earlier poster said...we are gentlemen....and we act like gentlemen.
The other thing...all the different rooms for us to play in....and the gameroom.....oh and the arcade.......well you get the idea.

Thank you for this board!!!!

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

Got to agree. I only really post and frequent two forums, but have probably belonged to 20 just to do info gathering. Once I realized how nice this place was I decided I had to jump in. Of course I firmly believe everyone is so friendly because of the guilt they feel for dragging us all into the abyss. If I had a dollar for every nice person on this forum... well I wouldn't have any dollars but I would have some nice cigars.

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

Oh shaddup, Jerry, you stoopid Noob!

Sorry, I just couldn't help that.

I don't belong to many forums, but when I began lurking here, I did notice some very unique veins running through it. The underlying thread of friendship and comraderie is undeniable. I joined in the midst of the "transition" and I really wondered what would happen. I've watched as the ranks have changed and I must honestly say, if anything, it's been for the better.
The reason newbs dont get flamaged here is because they typically don't come on here to tell everyone how it is, or impress everyone with their superior knowledge. In nearly every case, they politely introduce themselves and ask their questions/make their comments respectfully and humbly. One cannot help but reach out to such sincerity and deference. It lays a great foundation for getting to know people.
Lastly, this is a group, which really seems to embrace the ideal of "Pay it Forward." Generosity abounds; wisdom and experience are shared freely, as are cigars... with no expectation of anything in return, but security in the knowledge that "what goes around, comes around" and that we are all rewarded ten fold.

Great place to be.

B&M= Brick and Mortar. Meaning a business establishment that has an actual location that you can visit in person. As opposed to a strictly on-line retailer.

And I agree with all on this thread. It's the people that make the forum a special place.

Its nice to find a forum that actually talks about the subject it was created for, rather than dissolving into political and religious drivel.

Re: A certain nice thing about this forum..

I am another person who joined just before the change to Puff. I was just starting to really feel at home, and I was one of the skeptics, but have to hand it to Jon & Co. for doing a great job. I admit, from past experience I was fully expecting this whole thing to go right down the toilet, and it didn't. It's one of my homepages, and I check it at least twice a day. I learn something new every day, often with a good belly laugh for a bonus. (Read the Costumes thread, if you haven't!)

I've been smoking cigars for 30 years now, and for the first 29 of them, I was completely clueless. About 95% of what I know about cigars, I've learned here, in the last year. The occasional good cigar experience was purely accidental. Now that I know more about what to buy, and understand how to store, handle and smoke them properly, it's really rare for me not to enjoy one.

The civility and sense of brotherhood is unlike any forum I've ever been on. Maybe it's a little bit of a siege mentality at work. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that all smokers are under attack. One of the beauties of the Interweb Thingie is, even though we know we're a small minority, we also know that we're not alone. No matter who they are, or where a person is on their personal Slippery Slope, they're never made to feel stupid, or put down in any way, and that's pretty rare.

So, again, I would just like to thank Jon, the moderators, the content contributors, and all the Brothers and Sisters, who make this place what it is.

Whiners, trolls and troublemakers are promptly killed and disposed of. Other than that, this is a very civilized place.

I know exactly what your are saying, as until a few months ago, I knew nothing for 39 years of my smoking. Basically the same four cigars or so.
I WANT TO APOLOGIZE
After reading all the posts, I realize, that a few of my posts has contained a little snippy phrase in regard to the "paragraph police" a few members who want everyone to limit their posts to the tersest possible.
I will not longer allude to this, as no one else should have to read my unrest with this. I do try to keep my posts the shortest that I can in my own way, and do realize without indentation long posts are hard to read on line.
So, I will take this bit or upset out of my posts, and will try to keep my posts shorter if possible.

Much regards Jerry

Jerry,

Unless you have revived a PM from someone I wouldn't worry about the length of your posts. I for one enjoy your posts.

Keep it up!
