So I bought this Sun Grown Chateau last trip to the B&M to try the Sun Grown line of Fuentes. The damn thing started off with no flavor and had the worst cheek-caving draw ever. It's been sitting at 65% RH for about a week now, and the store I buy from doesn't over-humidify because I've smoked numerous sticks fresh from there with no problems whatsoever.

Then, about an inch into it, I hear this POP like, well... like the wrapper exploded.

The smoke SMELLED great, but the flavor was horrible; tasted like sweaty armpits. It wasn't over-humidified, it was dry outside, and there was no damage to it beforehand. I usually am easy-going about having a bad experience, but this was unacceptable!

You can see how plugged it is by the unevenness of the cherry...

Honorable death given by my fist in a puddle of spit.

Thank god I've gotten quite the assortment of other Fuentes now thanks to the Mad Bomber, as well as a King B I've been saving, but is there anyone I can contact about this? Apparently Fuente doesn't have a website, so should I try JC Newman's people? I don't care if this wasn't a super-premium, I still spent hard-earned cash on this stick, and have never, ever had a Fuente go bad on me in this fashion!

P.S. I had to smoke a cigarette to get the taste outta my mouth after this!

The easiest thing to do would be take it back to your store. If that won't work got to cigarfamily.com.

I have yet to find a Fuente that I liked. Just not my thing. I gave the Opus X a second chance yesterday and I tossed it half way through. I'm done spending money on Fuente.

Everybody, even Fuente, rolls a turd now and then. Hell, the cubans made a habit of it for a few years. Ask me how I know.

I agree with Don, even a reputable cigar maker like Fuente can turn out a bad one now and then. When you are purchasing and smoking a hand-rolled product there is always that chance for human error. I am more surprised by the number of sticks that I smoke that DON'T have problems. And like has been said, you can most always get another cigar for a bad one from a good cigar store.

I personally love the Sun Grown Fuentes, especially the Cuban Belicoso - Full -bodied, rich, and at around $4.00 stick, good value in my book. I always have a couple boxes put back with a few years of aging on them.

Sorry for your experience, but I would give them another chance.

I find Fuentes to be very overated and overpriced. Its all marketing and hype. I've had many poorly rolled cigars from them, so now I avoid them.

Give me a DPG any day

Thanks guys, I'll definitely give 'em another chance. Fuente produces my fav cigar of all time, the 8-5-8, and I think I had a Hemingway that was yummy once a few years ago.

Yeah, I'd try it again Isaac as the SG's used to be a "go to" smoke for me. Give them a few months in the humidor and try again.

Never had the Sun Grown, but I definately don't like all Fuentes. I thought the Chateau was pretty crappy.

Don't give up the Chateau Sungrown's, they are a pretty good stick for the money. I also like the Maddies. The best vitola in the line is the Cuban Beli.

We all like different stuff so you may not like them, but I sure do.

I have never seen a Fuente burn that ugly. You may have had a bad stick. Maybe give it another shot after a while.

I had my first Fuente about 2 hrs ago, a Gran Reservo (small cigar). Yuck. I kept getting kind of a "melted plastic" undertone once in a while. I set it down for a minute or 2 and it went out and was almost impossible to relight. I'll pass on the next one, thank you...

I actually had quite a bad experience with a Fuente Sun Grown myself a while ago, and it was the last Fuente product I smoked.

I guess I will go for the Montesino if it's in the morning, but there are Connecticut-shade wrapped cigars I will grab before that, too.

That happened to me once as well. I was drunk and forgot to take off the cello, LOL
