The cigar community

Just wanted to share a quick story that reminded me what great people are in the cigar community.

I was at my local B&M after work today when a guy came in to get a cigar out of his locker. I noticed a box of My Fathers in his so I asked how he liked them and told him I was thinking of trying one. Without pause, he offered me one! Now I'm going to save for about a month until my son is born.

I immediately told him he needs to join the forum and he said he'd try it out. So, if you see this...Thanks again, Doug!

Re: The cigar community

Cool story but does not surprise me about cigar people in general. We are a very giving community of people who like to see others enjoying a good cigar.

Re: The cigar community

I tend to always do that with people at my local B&M. If somebody hasn't had one of what I am smoking then I will offer them one as long as I have one sitting in my box.

Great group of regulars at the place I frequent.

Re: The cigar community

I was stuck in stop-n-go (mostly stopped) traffic yesterday afternoon in Atlanta when trying to get back home. I wanted to stop at Old South Tobacco in Macon but I knew they closed at six and this was at four. Finally made it there with 15 minutes to spare.

Told the owner and he just looked at me and said, "Why didn't you just call? I would have been glad to wait for you if need be." And this was on Football Friday Night in South Georgia to boot!

And I thought we had bad traffic in Dallas! You ever smoke while waiting in traffic?

A good cigar shop can make a fortune with the right attitude and atmosphere. I went into one of the larger ones in the area and asked for a quick, cheap smoke I could have during a lunch hour and he led me to "the best one in the humidor". Don't remember the brand, but it was $13 and at least a Toro size. I've heard lots of others complain about that place too. needless to say, I've never been back. In fact, I drive right past that place to go to one that is much smaller and very non-descript just because the owner, employees, and everyone I've met there are great people! I've never sat in the smoking room and not had a good conversation. Makes me want to move to my parents' home town and open a store there. They don't have one and I'm sure it'd work well.

Re: The cigar community

ericb what store are you talking about? I go to Plano every weekend for my sons soccer games and have been looking for a B&M to hit after the game on the way home. I normally go to Town and Country in Euless, right or 121 @glade. That is the most professionally run smoke shop I have ever been in, they have knowledgable staff that doesn't hound you in the humidor or BS you about the cigars. Please do tell where the non descript one is at. Thanks

I almost always smoke in traffic. In fact, I keep a Cuesta-Rey box in my truck that is filled with a variety of the small sized, smokes that come in the tins from various brands. They usually last anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes and I don't feel too bad and chunking them if I have to. I keep a small water pillow in it but just don't worry about temperature.

I would love to open a store here but only if I won the lottery. I'm afraid I would try to run the store as my personal collection and not to make money!! Just have a fantastic selection to share time, smokes, and tales with.

Re: The cigar community

I have noticed the same thing. Sometimes total strangers will offer me a stick when I am in a cigar lounge, and I have done the same for others. Cigar smokers as a group are very generous people, sharing both their experiences and their sticks.
