Cohiba question

I was at work the other day and a fellow worker saw me on puff.com and I asked him if he smoked cigars...all he said was that he liked cohibas..any kind. Now I know Im new to this, but to me his response was....generic. Was it generic or not, enlighten me, my fellow BOTL/SOTL

Re: Cohiba question

The only thing that would make it generic for me is the fact that you have Cuban Cohibas and Dominican Cohibas which are vastly different. If you like a cigar, odds are you enjoy varying vitolas of the same stick to an extent but when discussing sticks were there are both the cuban blends and non cuban (ie:Bolivar, Cohiba, etc). I would specify the country.

Re: Cohiba question

I'm a man of simple mind, so I would go ahead and assume he means what he said, which makes it generic - he likes red dot Cohiba (Cohiba Black, Cohiba XV, Cohiba Puro Dominicano) and Cuban Cohiba (Linea Classica, Lineo Siglo, Maduro 5, Edicion Limitada, Aniversario, Behike, Habanos Book Collection, Reserva, Gran Reserva...). But that's just me.

Re: Cohiba question

Okay you guy's are talking about me again. That's my pat answer I like Cohibas they are my daily. A cigar guy will move the conversation to the different varieties and then I will light up and have a good ol talk. Nothing funner than talking over a stick with a fellow nut.

But the non cigar guy well not so fun they will not get the passion we feel. I'm a big Dominican nut, but want to be a Habanos nut just haven't found many I like well enough, the old day ten/fifteen years ago I would get high over a good Cuban today I hate to say it but I don't like many anymore and the cost is to hard to justify, If I found the right ones and a good source that may change well see!

There is not a Dominican Cohiba I don't like though, I don't know why even though it doesn't always make sense. I had a friend bring me some siglos and we loved them but still not as much as the Doms. Weird I know.

Re: Cohiba question

ive had numerous conversations with people (clients, coworkers, people who see me smoking, other people in my travels, etc.) who say that they "smoke too"... my next question is almost always, what do u like to smoke? and the stock answer I get is " i like cohiba's." What I have been able to decipher from these multiple experiences is that the people (at least the ones ive experienced) really dont smoke very often and know that the "Cohiba" name is synonymous with "good cigar" so in an effort to sound more informed, they regurgitate "cohiba". I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on giving him some smokes or smoking a cigar with him in the near future.

Re: Cohiba question

Well like any cigar the Dominican Cohibas are different, I like the small ring size Red dot for my everyday mellow smoke, I like thee Puru and blacks for after dinners and the X say midday, but do mix them up.

The Cuban siglos are good but I don't like them as much as the doms, I do like them say after a full meal. I tried most while traveling so I tried a good variety. I will still bring some back, kinda a cigar guy rule isn't it, if you can buy them do so.

Bingo! Every person I have talked to that didn't have a real background as far as knowledge with cigars will envairably say "Cohiba" because it is a cigar that even novices are aware of. When pressed as to what kind they will usually say Cuban. When it's not a real hobby with them you will fast lose interest in talking to them about cigars. We cigar people are a different breed when it comes to this hobbly as we get excited just talking about cigars and the worse thing I can imagine is talking to a "poser" who tries to talk like they know what cigars are all about. My brother acts like that and he wouldn't a Punch cigar from a punch in the mouth but it's funny watching him talk about cigars.

Sounds like somebody told him that Cohibas are the best and he wanted to sound like a big shot. I would bet that he doesn't even know there are non cuban Cohibas.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the few "Cohibas" that he has smoked were fakes.

Well if cc means cuban cohiba and nc means non cubans Then I respectfully disagree, I would reverse it myself, of course we all have what we like. no offense intended.
