Do you keep your bands?

Just about every time i smoke a cigar i take the band off and put them in an empty cigar box by the humidor.
I try as hard as i can to get them off without damaging them, its like a game to me, even though i have no reason to do so...I'm not really sure why, its just a habit i guess.

I take mine off about halfway through the cigar.

What do you guys do with them?

What other weird habits do you have when smoking?

Re: Do you keep your bands?

I do practically the same as you .. don't know what to do with them, but it's nice to see which cigars I have smoked through the years .. if I get a really good one, I may note that on the back of the band, but I don't really use the info for anything - my memory is still so good I can remember which were good and which were bad

Re: Do you keep your bands?

I keep the bands also and right now they're in zip-loc bags. Not sure what I'm gonna do with them though. I thought about gluing them to a nice piece of spanish cedar, oak or something like that. I have old fashion, tongue & groove, pine planking for the walls in a couple of rooms at my home that is really tempting to use. But if I ever move, I would really hate to take part of the wall with me..... but I would!!

Last night, the side of the fridge came to mind. However, when the fridge dies and gets replaced (and you know they all eventually do), it would look sorta weird to see a side of a fridge covered with cigar bands on display in the house! Believe that the cedar or oak board is the best option.

Re: Do you keep your bands?

I do pretty much the same thing, I take em off once they get warm enough that the glue is loosened up a bit. Then I keep them, lol I have sooo many bands but I keep telling myself that I will do something with them one day. I was thinking about some sort of a collage and framing it, Ive seen it done and it looks pretty cool!

Yea that would be pretty cool, making a collage of sorts.

Ive recently turned the "Sitting Room" off the side of my bedroom into my smoke room. Ive been trying to find things to decorate it with, that would be a cool idea.

Or even like an end table with a glass top, and make a collage under the glass.... hmmm

Re: Do you keep your bands?

My wife is the artsy one and she suggested that I keep them "just in case". A few weeks later she made the comment that we should build a bar to house the kegerator out on our screened patio. The idea came to me that a good use for the bands would be to put them under the shellac on the bar top. I haven't told her this idea yet, we'll see if she ever lets me follow through on the bar idea!

Re: Do you keep your bands?

I save mine, and they're all over the place. Bedroom, truck, kitchen. Mostly in a Tupperware tub in the living room. I'm not even sure how many. I made a collage project a few months ago, and it was OK, but I know I can make one better. I got a bigger frame from WalMart, this one has a matte. I bought some nice paper from the artsy-fartsy store. I just started the project yesterday, by gluing one paper onto the matte, and another onto what will be the background. I'm going to start picking out which bands will go on it. This time, I have enough that I can select only the best ones that are in close to pristine condition. I'm also going to iron them flat this time. I smoke a lot of 5 Vegas and Gurkha, and they all have HUGE bands, so I'm going to concentrate on those for this project, so I'll still have a lot left over, for my other pending project, a coffee mug. I'm really pleased with how it's going, so far, and I'll have step-by-step photos to post, when it's all finished.

I got one of the picture-type travel mugs, also from WalMart. The body part of it screws apart, so you can put whatever you want in it. I didn't read the instructions and put it through the dishwasher and some water got inside and got the template wet, shich is now all wrinkled up, so I have to iron that out before I use it. I plan to permanently seal it up, once it's done, but I haven't decided how, yet. Much more concerning, the one time I've used the cup, it dribbled on my work shirt, which is a bad thing. If I can't get that sorted out before I spend my time decorating it, I'll look for one somewhere else. A previous post by someone else said that StarBuck's carries them, so I guess they're not completely useless.

In a previous thread, one person said he made his mug-collage and then scanned it and used a photo-print for the mug, which seems like a good idea. If you lost it or something happened to it, you wouldn't have to make a whole new collage every time. You could also make as many of them as you wanted, and give or sell them to other BOTL's.

I'd really love to snag one of our mugs from work, with the company logo on it, but I'm not sure they come apart. My CEO has Anti-Tobacco Derangement Syndrome, and a logo mug filled with cigar bands would totally drive her mad. The reaction would be priceless.

Re: Do you keep your bands?

I have been keeping most of my bands, as of right now I am just throwing them in a glass cylinder that we used for our centerpieces at the wedding reception.

Re: Do you keep your bands?

If I haven't smoked it.... I keep it, & it goes into a cigar box.

If I've smoked it before.... In ashtray it goes.

I have thought about keeping all of them lately though. The project idea with them is interesting to me.
