Partagas LRD, Padron 1964, or Casa Magna?
I have tried Padron 1964 and Casa Magna and loved them both. My friend favors the Casa Magna. He told me he got a deal on some Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas. Since we haven't made the purchase yet, I was trying to get an opinion on them. I prefer med-full smokes but I don't really care what I smoke as long as it draws well and it's not overly bitter. My friend on the other hand hates the aftertaste of cigars and said that so far the only one he really enjoys Casa Magna. Should we pick up the box of Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas? It would be at an amazing price. All opinions welcomed. Thanks
PS: Are there any Partagas that are similar to the LRD? I have 3 singles: Naturales, Black Clasico and Black Maximo Tubo. Are any of them gonna be a similar taste? Thank you. |

I can never pass on the 64, one of the best cigars out there in my opinion. However, there is a huge price difference. Especially between the 64 and the casa magna. For the price the Casa Magna is a great smoke, but overall the Padron 64 would get my vote.

If price is no object then the 64 takes it hands down. The Casa Magna isn't far behind though, and in terms of value I'd say its a better bet. The LRD let me down twice, and though I know it has its supporters, in that price range I can think of a lot of better smokes.

Re: Partagas LRD, Padron 1964, or Casa Magna?
So today I went to one of my Local B&M and picked up a couple of Casa Magna Gran Toros and the Padron 1964 Maduro Sampler. The owner gave me a sweet deal on the sampler. I paid only $90 for it. Then checked online prices at home and it sells for about $80 most places. So I'm feeling pretty good about my purchase so far. I also had an opportunity to get some Opus X tins. He had some Robusto sized tins and some Churchill sized tins. I was wondering if these were worth about $20 per stick. I still haven't decided on which box to get yet but tomorrow I will be going to Mohegan Sun and enjoying those 2 Gran Toros with a good friend of mine after dinner. Maybe I will decide on my first box purchase then.

Re: Partagas LRD, Padron 1964, or Casa Magna?
I finally got my hands on some Casa Magna when I went to NYC. I can't wait to try one, the sad one is that once I got back to Cali my B&M had some in stock. But I dunno if it can compare in quality wise to the 64. I guess I have to try one first, around here I can get 64s for around 10-20, and Casa Magnas for around 7-10.

Can't ever pass up a good deal, but I favor the 64s over most cigars.

Thought I would add a little visual input to this thread and share a photo I took back in January. It was memorable.

Re: Partagas LRD, Padron 1964, or Casa Magna?
For MY PERSONAL palate (everyone's is different, don't shoot!) the Casa Magnas (I've smoked 4 of the Colorado Robustos) fall flat after the first half. The first half is amazing, though, but they become very one-dimensional after the GREAT intro. Which makes it even more painful, I guess... The PAM 64s, on the other hand, are entertaining from start to nub. They're like gobstopper cigars, changing profile several times throughout (esp. the larger sizes, like Diplomaticos). I haven't tried the Partagas yet, though I have a couple sitting around... Sorry if that doesn't answer your question, just sticking my nose in the convo.
If it's really a great deal, you should jump on it IMO. If you don't like it, you can always try to sell/trade them or put them in samplers to give away here so others can try them... ( I don't know how much you'll get back for them, but everything seems to get paid forward around here. Very stand-up bunch, from what I've seen.)
