Re: Flor de Baloney?

They've had those for quite a while now and occasionally run specials on them but I don't know of anyone who's ever had one. Not exactly the kind of name that makes the mouth water.

If it's lunchtime, with some mustard and cheese on buttered bread...maybe, but not for an after dinner smoke!

It's that kind of thing that makes me positive that in some back room somewhere, there's a guy rubbing his chin and wondering "Just how far can we pull the wool over these guys eyes."

Re: Flor de Baloney?

I got one in a "grab bag" from JR's. Probably an older one where they we clearing out old stock. I thought it was a joke when I read the name on the band.

It was smokable, but not something I would look to purchase.

Re: Flor de Baloney?

Supposedly it was a dig at all of the La Flor this and La Flor that. I don't know about now but they used to tell you right in the magazine that these were not exactly the best cigar on the market.

Have to give it to Lew, he writes some very interesting copy.

They tried to blow these out on a buy one get one deal a while back. Apparently even that didn't work.

Re: Flor de Baloney?

If I remember, one catalog said something to the effect of, "It seemed really funny when we came up with it, but it turned out to be the dumbest thing I ever did."

If you have several million cigars in your warehouse that no one wants, even when you're practically giving them away, at some point you gotta send them back to the factory to be repackaged under a name that doesn't suck so much. Right?

Re: Flor de Baloney?

When I first started getting serious around ten years ago, I bought everything that was cheap. I gave all the crap away since. Moral of my story as much as I kike JR among the good stuff is a lot of crap.

So be careful out there!

Ditto for CI, CBid, Holts, Famous, and especially Thompsons. All the big retailers push the junk hard. If it's a good cigar it will rarely go on a deep discount sale. Word spreads fast on the interwebs and the good stuff will move.

Re: Flor de Baloney?

I bought some of these a while back for 39.95 + ship. .

They are good, very tasty and to my pallet, fairly complex with many changes.

That being said, I think they have been in storage for quite awhile, they are extremely mild. They are in no way firsts, they aint as pretty as they could be and half have a problem with the caps coming off.

I`m down to the last of the ones I bought and the last few I smoked were trouble free and very delicious, so I think I got a good-ish deal on a nice mild smoke. But I doubt I`ll buy them again because the marketing is really getting under my skin, I`m not a dummy, and I know what a "first" is. Their spiel is complete BS, these are seconds.

Cheers.
