WANTED: Thompson's For Review...

I've always wanted to review some (or any) of the Thompson's branded cigars. If anybody out there has some (and I'll keep you anonymous if you prefer) of the Thompson's sticks, I'd love to get a few for review purposes. It's not really worth me buying a bundle to review one, but I'll happily pay you back with something decent.

Thanks in advance. (As always, my reviews are based solely on my impressions of a particular cigar. Popular opinions are not taken into consideration.)

-=OR=-

Each of you can give me ten cigars per month to drop the whole idea...

Hmm... I'll have to stop by there one day. I think it's been several decades since I've been in an Albertson's. Thanks!

And by the way, I *am* slowly but surely reviewing what I received from you. And I'll get ya back some day soon...

Many thanks to Vegas Smoker, who dropped this load of Thompson's on me.

http://tinyurl.com/g7nq6

I will be doing reviews on them shortly; and these will be the same type/quality reviews as I do for anything else. The point of this exercise is to do an unbiased set of reviews of my own of Thompson's products. Anybody who has similar tastes to me (by reading my reviews) can at least make an educated choice this way.

Thanks Again!

Re: WANTED: Thompson's For Review...

Well, you are in luck. I just ordered some Thompson Cigars today. I will be able to send you a Thompson Vintage Especiale, Thompson Gran Reserva, Chavon, and La Condesa. In fact, if this is a totally unbiased review, I will send you a few of each.
I have noticed that for some reason, Thompson has a bad reputation going here, but no one has explained why. I have been thinking of posting the question as to why there are so many Thompson haters, but you provied the perfect oppurtunity for the question. Personally, I enjoy a great many of their cigars. Of the four mentioned, I am getting 200 cigars for under a dollar each, WITH A 100% MONEY BACK GUARENTEE!! Who makes a deal like that? And yes, I have sent cigars back to them.
Reading some of the reviews of Thompson Cigars posted on the Top 25 Cigars really makes me wonder if some of the reviewers have actually smoked the cigars, or just can the cigar because of who makes them.
The Cigars should be here in 3 to 5 days. Send me the info I need to get them to you and I will. Meanwhile, Why don't some of you explain what is wrong with Thompsons? I mean, if they are using underage slave labor and forced prostitution, I will not want to support them either.

((EDIT MODE: Been in Nashville for the past few days for NG Drill, and just read the post on "Making Fun of Thompsons". It does appear that some have had bad experiences with them. I have been dealing with them for over a year, and the only contact I have ever had from them is when they e-mail me to tell me the order has been received and shipped. On the sent back cigars, they payed shipping and refunded the money, no problems. But Heck, I was really hoping for some forced protitution! ))

Re: WANTED: Thompson's For Review...

The problem with Thompsons that I have is their extremely high (gouging) prices on the non-Thompson branded stuff - LGC Serie R line for example . Another problem I've read about is when people make phone orders , the sales crew push the house brands relentlessly . And one final problem I'm aware of is the telemarketing they do . If I want something then I will call them - don't interrupt my dinner with my family to sell me anything . There are much better cigar companies out there to deal with , IMHO .

Rather you than me, buddy.

It's a shame no one sent you a couple of Belmondos. I'd like to hear what you think about them.

First off - If you like them then by all means smoke them - but:

(I have never bought from them - but I know a ton of people who have.)

Last time I saw a catalog from them it was filled with house brands. And they must have 30 some odd house brands.
The premium cigars they do sell are way over priced.
Getting telemarketing calls from them is not uncommon.
I would like to say that they stretch the truth - but can't cause they just down right lie - for example - and to quote:

In the tradition of contemporary Cubans, in the company of cigars earning 90+ ratings from the cigar publications, the Thompson Doņa Ines ranks with the finest. A long line of faithful Thompson smokers can attest to the stature of Doņa Ines.

Try to find a Doņa Ines in any cigar database/review/etc anywhere. It won't show up period. So how can it be placed along side the likes of any 90+ rated cigar in the world.

Just had a party for my wife's 50th birthday on Saturday. One friend who "was" a Thompson's user was there. In the course of four hours I gave him a Rocky Patel Connecticut Churchill and then a Connie 84. Sent him home with another Connie and a Gurkha. He called me Sunday to let me know that he tossed out every single Thompsons he had left and wanted to know web sites to buy the good stuff from.

Maybe if you start expanding out to some good premiums - you'll join him in tossing those Thompsons.

Me - I'd rather smoke Garcia Vega's than anything from Thompsons - but again, that's just me -

Ron

Not even two days after ordering, have not received the cigars yet, they already called me to try to sell me some other junk. They were claiming they were the cigars that they smoke daily and that are the best around blah blah blah.

I had one Belmondo about a year ago and it sucked. It wasn't a question of inadequate rest or anything other than it sucked. To include, poor burn, taste was awful, aroma was not much of anything, it lacked complexity, and didn't get any better from beginning to end. However, their Manolete's are very good and their La Paloma (Natural) is okay.
