Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
Catchy Topic Title.. Huh?
![]() Well, Its me.. Pinkfloydfan. 40 y/o Married / Dad.. With a hairy back... Don't get too exited. ![]() I really meant to say a "CUBAN CIGAR" VIRGIN .. I just forgot to type that part. I'm old.. Sorry, I forget stuff. OK, I am sincerely enjoying reading all the information and opinions I see posted here, as well as the comradary and banter amongest so many of you.. I am very glad I stumbled upon this forum and am enjoying my stay very much. I plan on being here a while too. I still have a few major debated thoughts to ponder while continuing to read and learn.... For those of US who have never smoked a Cuban cigar yet, ![]() ** What really makes Cuban Cigars any "better" then the Non-Cubans I am currently smoking? ... Or is this just soley a matter of personal opinion and taste? Perhaps for many of us .. Perhaps for some of us in the USA, It's just a "Forbidden Fruit" factor.. I read so much about Cuban cigars and it seems like everyone is drooling to have one.. Why?.. PFFan |

I've had only one...a Montecristo. It was very smooth, but I didn't care for the flavor. I'll only smoke another if it's gifted to me. i think the forbidden fruit factor is right on.

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
The one Cuban cigar I had was a Saint Luis Rey. Can't remember what kind, but it packed a punch! It reminded me of a Don Pepin Garcia cigar...but better. I think anything by DPG is going to be as close to getting the taste and aroma of a Cuban.
I do agree with what a lot of people say...the whole forbidden fruit thing. Not being able to acquire some easily is a way of making you want them even more. But they are definately worth the hassle of trying to get some. They are THAT good! But...if you aren't able to get any. Grab a DPG Black, or DPG Vegas Cubana's. The closest non-cuban I've had! |

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
I'm still a virgin. I've seen people say that there are way better NCs, and I've seen people say the exact opposite. I want to try them for myself so I can come to my own conclusion. I know people who've had a couple CCs while in Canada on a trip and they say they are the best and the smoothest. I'm left wondering if they really know though because these people aren't regular cigar smokers and haven't had very many cigars period. With my limited smoking experience I feel like I could recommend them some NCs that would match what they describe to me and they'd probably be pleased with them. I'll know for myself one way or the other soon enough.

i'll agree with the forbidden fruit aspect as being the #1 reason for the drool. i have heard the DPG factor several times, and will not speak against it, as i do like the pepins. there are a multitude of NC's that can hold their own with the CC's. i myself enjoy smoking each every day. all that being said, you should try both and form your own opinion. need help? i'm a pm away... |

I love Pete, Pepin, & Dion's stuff escpecially!!!![]() As for CC's... They're good, & I like em.... But personally, I think the quality control is much better out of Nicaragua & the Dominican. The "forbidden fruit" factor is definitley why I like to smoke them when I can, but... I'm not going to say that I like them better than some of my fave NC's. There are good CC's, & ones I didn't care for, just like any other NC's that I smoke every day. It is cool to get your hands on some & smoke them knowing they're kinda of a rare treat. You know... Kinda like eating at Ruth's Cris... You don't get to do it every day. ![]() |

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
I believe it is mostly for the forbidden fruit factor, but there are some really great CCs out there. There is something different in the smell and taste of a CC, but I suppose there is something unique about a cigar from every country/region.
IMHO, the best part of the end of the embargo (when/if it happens) won't be the availability of CCs. It will be the blending of that country's tobacco with others. Can you imagine a little Havana-grown leaf in a Pepin or a Padron? |

Forbidden fruit doesn't enter into it for me; they just taste different. Whether that means "better" to you is personal taste. |

Not a Virgin!
Some Cuban lovers get downright emotional to those of us who Prefer Dominicans and others. I do not and never did understand the reasons and probably never will. I will say a couple of the best cigars I have ever had were Cuban, but that was so long ago I can't remember what they were. A few years ago I started traveling overseas for the first time in my life and by God I was going to smoke Cubans daily and did for the most part. At first I probably had some fakes and thought that was why I didn't like them, As I started to spend more time with expats and they directed me to real deal cigar shops and I continued to sample and they still sucked. I was getting annoyed because I was paying generally $15 and up a stick. I think maybe they are just not for me. I had friends including a shop owner say that over production and poorer quality control may be the reason. I may just not have the taste for them I don't know. I still try once in a while and have a few aging to see if that makes a difference. I would love to duplicate that first one all those years ago because it was delicious! I was told or read somewhere that they use all their tobacco and don't age any, so maybe a few boxes and a few years in the humidor would change my mind? we will see! I may have not found the right brand though I did try just about every CC I could find. I did sorta like a Partagas and a Monte wasn't to bad but not worth repeating. May Hap some day I'll hit gold but so far I'll stick with what I like not what others like! Now I take my smokes with me and don't try to hard but do buy at duty free and bring some to smoke later. I would say for me they are over rated and like you say it's the taboo factor, but if they ever come available or if I find a good source will keep trying. Taboo or stubborn I guess. I know one thing I could care less what my neighbor smokes and will never tell him his tastes or choices are shit. Because to him they obviously are not! Good Topic. ![]()

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
I have very limited cc experience and for me they are a treat, I don't have money to make them more than that. I do like them though, there is something about them that makes them different from all the NC's that I've tried. As many have said throughout this forum, different, not necessarily "better". For me though, once I decide it's "treat night" I find it a little tough getting back into the ol' NC routine.

Not a virgin...I smoke CC's when I can because they are better...plain and simple...The Tobacco is just better when grown in Cuba. It is the unique growing conditions there that make the cigars so good...

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
I've had about a dozen of them, or so. I don't even remember what it was, but my first one was almost a religious experience. I was in Canada for a friend's wedding, and felt obligated to buy one, just to see what all the fuss was about. It was totally unlike any cigar I had ever had before. The flavor was very robust, but there was none of the harshness that I was used to from other cigars. I never knew a cigar could be like that. I didn't want it to ever be over. I smoked it until it was burning my fingers and singeing my mustache.
From what I've read lately, I guess it's mostly dumb luck, but the two things they have all had in common are that same smoothness, and they have all been impeccably constructed. I literally know 50 times more about cigars now, than I did then, so when I (some day) get to try a few more, I'll be coming at it from a whole new perspective, and maybe be better able to put my finger on what it is, exactly, that makes them different. Having said all that, I really do feel there are any number of cigars on the NC market now that are every bit as good as the CC's I've had, but they're not the same, that's all. If I travel somewhere they're legal, I'll definitely buy a few, but I don't feel like I'm being at all "deprived" by not having legal, easy access to them, either.

Re: Are you a VIRGIN too? Read and Post here :)
Well, when hanging in the bahamas at the Atlantis, i would constantly buy cuban cigars, the flavor is just so much better to me.
But have i has a NC that was better than a CC? Yes because there has been a couple individual brands/cigars i did not like that were cuban, and some NC's that i just loved. But in my book, a NC Romeo vs CC Romeo. There was no comparison. Just my opinion, some disagree. |
