I found a 30 year old cigar
Okay, I have been retired from the military for a little over 5 years now, and the same from the nypd.
I am still going through with the wife, all the boxes and crap that I have accumulated over the years. Its amazing just the amount of various uniforms( In all different sizes from waist size 32 to 4 But I was going through one box going back to the seventies. It was mostly old military supplies. Back packs, knives, mag clips, canteens etc. And inside one of my bdu,s(battle dress uniform) I found one of my trusty old tube cigars. It was in a double tube, which one tube was a flask and one a cigar. The liquid is gone, but you can still smell what it was. John Daniels. As in the scent of a woman, we had a personal relationship with Jack and called him John. LOL Anyway, I remember that cigar for some reason. It was an hoyo de monterrey. Not sure if it was a cuban or non cuban(probably a cuban because thats where I was) I never heard of that cigar, and put it away, to make sure I wouldnt be poisoned. (you can never be sure) There are cracks in the wrapper, , but it is not rock hard like a stone. I put it in one the humis in the lower part at 62 rh. I can already feel it becomming alive? Any chance of this every becomming smokeable? I mean you could actually feel it like wasnt stone, but more like a real hard black handball. Thats about twenty cigars I have found so far in the last two years, but none that old. I dont know why I remember it so. I thought it might have been mexican back then because of the monterrey. Too bad cigar values arent like wine for the most part. Much regards Jerry |

Re: I found a 30 year old cigar
I would think if someone could bring back a couple of boxes from 120 years ago ( 120 Year Old Cigars ), you oughta be able to manage 30! lol
What fun! Good Luck!

It can be rehumidified but it will never taste the way it is supposed to. After that much time all of the essential oils will have dried up unless it was properly stored.

Buddy of mine recently was gifted a Cuban Davidoff... He's trying to revive it now. It's in rough shape, but who cares! It's bad @$$!!!

Re: I found a 30 year old cigar
Cigar values are like wine for the most part. The older the better (more valuable). Much more valuable. But it doesn't apply to cigars that have been allowed to become dried out, or cigars that aren't Cuban, for the most part. If it's Cuban, it will say "Habana" on the band. The cigar will become smokable, in the most literal sense of the word. However, it likely will taste exactly like...nothingness.

Good luck on the dried out cigar. 30 years of dry is hard to fx. But what the heck - try it and let us know what it is like.
