My love for the Man O' War Ruination

Today I had 1 stick left in my humi, and decided to fire it up. It was a MOW Ruination. Over the past few months, I've had the pleasure of smoking many different types of cigars. But nothing has made me stop, and look at the cigar in amazement like the Ruination does. I feel the need to review this, as it has given me many hours of enjoyment.

The wrapper is a gorgeous reddish brown, minor veins, and a mouth watering sheen.
Every single stick I have ever smoked of these has had stellar construction, tight ash, perfect, and I mean PERFECT draw. Hands down the most consistent cigar I've ever smoked.

From the initial puff, you instantly know that this thing is full body, a blast of spice for the first few tokes, that mellows out into a nice oaky, woodsy flavor with a touch of spice that sits on the tip of your tounge. Licking of the lips brings out a pleasant sweetness. Producing lots of smoke, but the aroma in the room will definitely have non cigar smokers complaining.

Into the second third, you began to pick up a little bit of a leathery flavor, still lots of woodsy flavors, and the spice has now traveled further down your tounge and is hitting the back of your throat a little bit.

I think I should mention the nicotine kick this thing gives you. Light headed, but at the same time makes you feel like you downed a cup of coffee! Leg is all antsy, and I feel like doing a few push ups. Hands trembling over the mouse, no joke!

The final third, I take a hit and after the woodsy flavors I get an aftertaste of nuts, cashews to be specific! Don't laugh at me, it's just what it tastes like to me lol. The end of this cigar is all over the place, it seems like it changes with every puff., Oak, spice, nuts, leather and very sweet after taste that has me licking my lips more than I like. If I was in public, I would have had a few women give me the finger, but I'd give them the finger right back.

I was told the Oliva Serie V is similar to this cigar, and I agree, it's only similar, at the same time it's nothing like it. This cigar will always be in my humi, as it is my favorite smoke. The best thing I've noticed with the Ruination is it doesn't really need any rest in the humidor, maybe only to recover from shipping.

For you full flavored lovers, give it a try.

That's absolutely fantastic! I haven't had the Ruination yet, but I'm absolutely in love with the standard Man O' War. This is definitely on my list of things to try.

I don't think I've had a bad cigar from AJ Fernandez. I will have to give these a try as well. Thanks for posting.

Re: My love for the Man O' War Ruination

Great review, great photos. After reading it, it is something I would like to try, but just a few puffs. From what you said about the kick of nicotene from it, I would be looking to start a fight. It would bring out my hidden dark nature, that my lovely wife has tamed.

But a superb documentary provided by you on this cigar. Oh no, I just checked I have a couple of them in my humidor. Must of bid on a sampler or something. I guess I can give them a few puffs. Strap me down first. LOL

Much regards Jerry

Re: My love for the Man O' War Ruination

After watching all of the AJ Fernandez vids on this site I told myself that I had to try one of these at some point. Seeing the inner workings of how a cigar is made makes the thought of smoking one even better.

I'm happy to see a good review of this one. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on C-Bid for a pack.

Great review. But If I'm not wrong the cigar you have pictured is just a MOW not a Ruination

No, that is a Ruination. They just recently changed the band due to the confusion the Robusto #2 was causing. The Ruination came with a second band on the foot, but the Robusto #2 didn't, and people were unsure if they got a regular MOW or the Ruination.

Also, the cigar I reviewed was the Belicoso size which the regular MOW does not come in. Here is a pic of the box of ruinations I went through taken from my profiles photos.

I bought a box of the 6-60's when they first came out. The label was the same as the label of a regular MOW. I called CBID and they confirmed that they were Ruinations. They now have a different band. I think tha Aces confirmed this in a post many moons ago.

In any case, Enjoy! That might have to be tonight's last smoke.
