Recommend me something to try...

Here has been what I've REALLY enjoyed

Arturo Fuenta 8-5-8 Maduro or Natural (Lonsdale)
Ashton Classic (Double Magnum)
Padron 3000 (Robusto)
Rocky Patel Sungrown (Torpedo)
Rocky Patel Maduro of Costa Rica <-- Wish I could find more of these!!!
Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
Perdomo Lot 23 (Robusto)

The following were OK, but not my favorite...

CAO Gold
Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Reale No2
Romeo y Julieta Churchill
Oliva Series V Torpedo
Rocky Patel Vintage 1992
Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

I'm not fond of spicy on the tongue...
I like a good amount of smoke
Size-wise, something 5" to 6" in length and 50 to 55 ring gauge

So, based on what I've tried and REALLY liked... recommend me something to look for at my local B&M

Thx,

K

Re: Recommend me something to try...

I think you'll enjoy the AF Hemingway line. I'm not sure what price point you want to stay in, but the short stories are a great little smoke, just not sure they're worth the $6 or $7 bucks for them now.

There's a little boutique brand based out of Atlanta that's darn tasty. This might fit your bill since you've mentioned some nic and honduran cigars that you like. You'd have to look on his site for Florida retailers.

Primer Mundo Cigars

I see you weren't fond of the Oliva G, but you should should try the Oliva V. There's a few ideas.

Whoops, my bad. It was the Oliva V, I tried, that was too bold for me.

I do have an Oliva G in the humi right now.

Thx

Honestly, I have found that a good local B&M gives me the greatest advice when it comes to cigars. I learn a lot here, but there is something different about looking and seeing the cigar I am looking at. I like CAO Italia for a mild cigar, well I think its mild. Ashton is a great choice. I think you should continue down the road of fuente 858, you cant go wrong there. THere is also a huge list somewhere around here of great mild cigars.

Re: Recommend me something to try...

cao brazillia, cao cameroon is a pretty sweet cigar not spicyat all, and don pepin series jj and don pepin cuban series very good sticks as well there are thousands of cigars out there. you may try on spicy cigar hate it then try another and love it. ask your local b&m worker what he suggest and try some out its hard to judge a cigar if you have only had it once cause no two are the same

Give the Montecristo Afriques a try, you might like them. I like the Sublimations (petit coronas) as a pleasant change of pace stick. Also, I had an H. Upmann Signature that was very tasty, yet mild. There are a ton of great, mild sticks out there, asking your B&M for advice is a great way to get to know them. (If your local shop is friendly, that is.)

Re: Recommend me something to try...

Try a La Gloria Cubana Series R #4. It has quit a kick to it and mild on the spices (in my opinion).

Goes great with a glass of Baileys on the rocks to mellow it out a bit.

Cheers,
Brad

+1 All these are great smokes (the ones I've had at least). Too bad you didn't like the Oliva Serie V. One of my favorites. Also, one suggestion, make sure you add your address to your profile or the Rolodex.

Suggestion for our newer members!

You might be surprised who would send you things to smoke instead of just suggestions. This forum is great about giving you new things to try.

You should try the Private Stock. It's my favorite of the low spice, non-DPG lines.

C.A.O. Brazilla - CHECK! Was a good smoke last night.

I have some AF Don Carlos sticks on order...

Will check my B&M for the others.

Karl

P.S. - I'm taking these suggestions and adding them to a running list on my iPhone. Then when I'm at my local tobacconist, I look for some of suggestions in the store, check out the Puff iphone App, and pick up a few each week.

Yeah, John's right. It's a beginner "MUST TRY" smoke. Preferably on an empty stomach so you can really appreciate the flavors.
