About the only ones I know I will need a special occasion for are my custom rolled Taboadas. I was gifted 2 from Sean9689, and I had one of these (DAMN it was GOOD!!!), and received 3 from Joe for a contest. Beyond the truly rare ('85 RyJ Church, early 80s H.Upmann), I'd say most everything in my humi is at my disposal. But I do still get that twing when I reach for the last of a special stick, and have to wonder where/when I'll find the next one. |

Re: Saving cigars for a special time
If I saved a cigar for a special occasion, I'd probably never get to smoke one. I smoked (3) "finally leaving" cigars in Iraq, because our plane ride kept getting extended.. I was going to have a going away, half way there, there, and ended up having to buy more at the Duty free in Ireland, cause.. *looks around* you don't have to go back through customs (free hint for anyone going to Iraq through Shannon, Ireland!) - only works for military though, as you've already been through customs once... and don't have to stand in the normal international line.
Then, when I got home and found out that my oldest friend had finally graduated with a degree in Political Science, I burned two with him that had been in my Dad's humidor for about 5 years, which is about how long he was in school. Just turned out to be the case, wasn't planned at all. My Dad isn't a big smoker and I'm not often around.. I'm young, so I still have reckless abandon, thus if I get it, and it's high time to be smoked, I smoke it. But once again.. I'm young.. DK

Re: Saving cigars for a special time
I used to save them, but wound up having a humi full of smokes I was saving. Now I smoke what I want when I want and don't worry too much about if it's a rare or expensive smoke.
The only caveat is I have to ABSOLUTELY make sure I have the time to enjoy the smoke, which sometimes is harder than others. |

Re: Saving cigars for a special time
I'm guilty of saving, but only some rare smokes and a couple DC's that are rather time consuming and worth the right moment when you have enough time. As for all of the others, what's the phrase? Oh yeah, smoke 'em if you got 'em.
