Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

I have had a an CAO LX2 and Cameroon in the last couple of days. Both had some pepper notes and chocolate notes. Eew! I am not impressed. The LX2 was more pleasant to smoke, but that combo is weird. I love maduros with chocolate/cocoa flavors along with earth, tobacco, toast, etc., but not the pepper.

Just venting, but does anyone enjoy that? Not passing judgement, just curious. Heck, I like some weird combos myself.

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

I think chocolate and pepper are used togther in quite a few recipes.
I personally don't mind the both of them in my cigar mix, They just tend to appear at different points in the smoke for me.

Similiar to using coffee in Chocolate cakes.

Check this out. ----> LOL --> I knew I seen it somewhere.

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

Yeah I don't mind the mix either. Although I prefer the chocolate and pepper flavors in different stages of the smoke.

Cheers,
Brad

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

I actually had a "Spicy Maya" candy bar that has pasilla chile, cayenne Pepper and cinnamon in it yesterday. Pretty good to me...but I'm not so sure how that would be in a cigar?

It really brought out some interesting tastes in the Oliva G that I was smoking tho!

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

Chocolate and chilies go great together. I make a chocolate cake with Ancho and Chipotle chile in it, and it's a fantastic cake. And some Mexican Mole's have chocolate in them.

But I'm not a huge fan of peppery cigars. Once in a while.

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

I had that combo in a smoke tonight and I kinda liked it. Pepper is pretty easy to pick up, but I don't taste a lot of other flavors because my palette isn't refined enough. I was smoking a cigar that I've had quite a bit tonight and the chocolate suddenly hit me like a brick! I thought it was pretty good. maybe I'm getting to have a better palette.

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

Maybe I'm the odd man out. All those recipes sound gross! To each his own.

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

Many Nic cigars with Corojo wrappers have a cocoa flavor with spice, I love those cigars!

At a herf Cypress (Sam) brought a chocolate bar that had pepper in it (can't remember what kind of pepper) but it was very good and went great between cigars!

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

The ancient Mayans were into spicey chocolate dwinks n stuff.

Here is a yummy bar with it;

Dark Chocolate Chile Variado Bar | Moonstruck Chocolate Company

Did I mention that it's fun and tasty?

I loved the LX2 when I smoked it, I remember only getting pepper in the first third and then it went away

Re: Chocolate and Pepper, WTF?

Hmm, I love the Cameroon! They're now part of my permanent stock. I don't think they taster like you described. The CAO Maduro is kinda chocolaty/peppery but not the Cameroon.
