Joyo De Nicaragua Antano 1970...

Just a short little review, kind of out of my general review style but I don't feel like writing a big review at the moment. I feel kind of sick. The size was the Belicioso, which is a nice chunky 6X56 oily stick.

Pretty spectacular smoke! I can see why the president's smoked these things back in the 1970s, really nice full-bodied stick with lot's of wood, pepper, spices, leather, earth as well as a nice spicyness on the lips and tongue. I also really enjoyed the tobacco flavor that this thing had, it was absolutely delightful. The smoke was nice, and fairly thick but not very heavy or visible.

The only negative aspects that this stick had was the fact that this stick was touted to be high in Vitamin N...which I didn't really feel and then the draw on this thing was kind of tight. I'll definitely be smoking more of these, and I'd recommend them to someone who like a strong smoke.

Also, Hooray for finally dropping by the Original Cigar Store(where I picked up this stick) somewhere around 88th and Wadsworth(if I remember correctly) that another local BOTL told me would be a good store to check out for a new local source. Fantastic service, excellent pricing on a lot of things, excellent selection, and one HELL of an impressive lounge. The pipe tobacco selection also appears to be excellent.

For the price, that cigar is one of my absolute all-time favorites. I am not so much a fan of the larger (consul, beli, gran consul) as I am of the smaller (lancero, corona) sizes. They seem to taste a little better and have that extra kick to them. It's been my experience that the longer they sit, the better they get. Six months is good, a year is better, and a couple years makes for a fantastic smoke.

Congrats on finding a new place to spend your coin.

Nice review Royal. I"ll have to grab one of those.

The Original Cigar Store is definitely a great local B&M shop for us in Westminster, CO. Glad to see that there are some enthusiasts close by.

Cheers,
Brad

The Antano is a beautiful smoke. I find it to be less powerful than the LFD DL.

I agree with your review as this cigar is really a good one. For those who like full body cigar this is something that you will enjoy even though it's not like the LFD ,,,,but then again I don't smoke cigars based on how much they can kick my ass. This cigar can be had cheap as a 5 pak on CBID which is where I get mine,,,I usually will buy about 15 of them and let em age for a year and that is when these beauties shine.

A buddy of mine absolutely loves these, I can't wait to give them a try. I almost blindly pulled the trigger on a box of them on cigar monster a couple of weeks ago....

This is not the blend the Presidents were smoking in the 70s. My opinion, the pre-war JDNs were better, and they were one of the dominant NCs at the time. I keep a box of Consul Antanos and have been buying them since they first came out. I always get a perfumed aroma from them though, regardless of how long I keep them which is why I don't smoke them more often.

Re: Joyo De Nicaragua Antano 1970...

I was at the B&M yesterday and I decided to buy another cigar to smoke with my father, and I ended up buying the JDN Antano 1970 Gran Reserva in a robusto size(these were actually cheaper then the regular ones) and it was absolutely fantastic, I noticed mine had a fine layer of bloom all around it and overall the flavors were a lot bolder and more pronounced, and smoother.

I'd recommend trying the Gran Reserva if you enjoyed the regular blend.

Re: Joyo De Nicaragua Antano 1970...

I've been smoking those for the past 4-5 years and have 3 or 4 boxes in my coolers right now. They're a great smoke and easily my "go to stick" when others are failing me.
