Peppery cigars for a noob
I had my first 5 vegas miami tonight paired with a peppery bourbon and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I understand that his is not a fantastic example of a med to full, but I have been working my way up the chain. I tend to enjoy spicy foods, so this seemed great to me. I would like to hear some suggestions for this flavor profile that would be in line to try next.
Typing this on a netbook so please forgive lack of punctuation, etc. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
You really need to try Tabacos Baez Series SF by DPG. I haven't had the long fill version, but I imagine it tastes as good or better than the SF. This is my favorite smoke and I like the pepper as well.
I had a 5 Vegas Miami the other night and it was peppery at first, but then it went away. The TB is mucho superior IMO. |

Most anything from Camacho, or try the Tempus from Alec Bradley

AB Tempus is a good one. Also anything by Don Pepin Garcia.

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
Hmm...I'd suggest almost anything by Tatuaje, Illusiones are fairly spicy, also some Padillas; Miami, 1948, 1932......a lot of nicaraguan cigars are peppery.

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
All of these are good tips here. Start buying some 5 packs or singles from sources where they don't charge for shipping ( Tampahumidor ) and this way you can try all sorts of different brands. Spicy is one of those terms that can be different from one person to the next so my advise is to get busy trying different cigars. You will be surprised as to what you find out there. It doesn't always have to a "named" brand cigar that gets your attention. Some of my favorite cigars are from places that don't carry the "named" brand seal.

Seriously, are we talking pepper, like peppercorns, or pepper, like the fruit (habanero, jalapeno, etc)? I could get into a spicy jalapeno cigar, but black pepper not so much. And none of the above with chocolate!

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
Thanks for the suggestions. While I really like habanero spicy, I also like the bite of wasabi or a good chinese mustard. That's the sensation in my sinus when I retrohale that I liked!
My local B&M doesn't carry Tats OR DPG....may have to check out the Tampahumidor! Gary, I could care less about the "brand" - I kind of like the idea of unbanded cigars...kind of mysterious! Unfortunately, there aren't too many sources that I know about yet! Give me time! |

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
I just had my first 5 Vegas Miami on Sunday and I didn't really find it peppery. It seemed like a fairly consistent woody flavor throughout.
Oliva Serie V Double Robusto. That sucker kicked out the pepper. As a noob myself, I could barely handle it. It's worth giving a try though. Everyone here seems to love them. I think my palate is too wimpy to handle them right now. ![]() |

I've had some peppery Cuesta Rey cigars. They weren't over powering, just a little bite.

Punch Double Maduro Rothschild. As a friend of mine put it, "Like smoking a taco." But in a good way.

Re: Peppery cigars for a noob
I've never really picked up any pepper notes (pardon the pretentious CA lingo) from any Tatuajes ... more of an earthy taste, a really good taste I might add. As far as peppery cigars go, the Gran Habano 3 Siglos line is one that comes to mind when the word peppery is used. When the La Gloria Cubana Serie R line was actually being made by Ernesto they were really spicy sticks but they seem to have gotten bland since General bought the brand.
