Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use a variety of cutting methods, and it tends to depend on the rg. I will use a double guillotine on most everything, but on small ring gauges (46 or smaller) I use a V-cut. One of my favorite smokes, the SLR maduro rothschild, I use a punch. Why? Beats me, but that's how I like them. I find the punch restricts draw a good deal, so I try to avoid them when I can. Same goes for the V-cut in certain cases.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use a punch, v, and gullitine, in that order....basicly, the less intrusive cutter, the better. But with some smokes, the punch won't give enough of a draw (or fills with tar), so then I'll move to the V...if that won't do it, then 'off with his head'!!! I have used a V, then 'reamed' it out with a punch on some gars that are hard to draw. It's my opion that unless gars are under humidified, cap problems are usually non-existant...

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
As a newbie to this whole cigar process....looks like I will have to try more or other methods. Looks like I need to find more that one way to cut my cigar.
Thanks all....still in the learning process for me and looks like it might be a while too. Merv. |

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
Being a noob, I have yet to try anything but the guillotine. But after reading how many people use a punch, or v cut. I will go out today and pick them up so I can expand my horizons.

I like to use a guillotine most of the time. I also use a punch.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
Living out here in the Wild West I have perfected a method taught by the late great Buffalo Bill Cody to Will Rogers:
I take my cigar, carefully remove the cello, and toss it up into the air,,, just before my twirling smoke hits its apex I whip out my Colt 45 six-shooter and shoot the cap clean off the cigar, quickly I replace the gun in its holster and catch the descending cigar in my teeth................................... then I hear my alarm going off and I realize it's time to wake up and start my day. Haha....sorry.... I use my Klip-It cutter that I got free from Island Smoke Shop with one of my orders. Works every time. Some day I'm going to get me a fancy cutter. Some day. Double blade guillotine. I have a Xikar and a Cuban Crafters.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I picked up a $2 v-cutter last night and used it on a CAO Gold Robusto and it worked great
In terms of difference of taste only thing I noticed was smoke seemed cooler...and what is nice I found I did not have to worry about cracking the cigar as much when cutting. |

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use a Palio cutter, and have for the last few months. It's far superior to the old punch I used to use, and gives clean and consistent cuts every time. I also have a cheap pair of cigar scissors that work really well. I wouldn't mind trying one of those spikes either.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
Torpedo I use a V cut and on all the others a AVO punch. I never would have thought to use a v cut on a torpedo but my B&M told me to try it and I have to say it works really great.
