How do you prefer to cut your cigar
Since I got into cigars I have only been using one type of cutter a double guillotine, I was reading a review recently from another site of the LFD DL Chisel and the reviewer mentioned in order to really bring out the flavor you should use a punch which got me thinking I wonder for certain cigars should I use different type of cuts? Maybe I should get a v-cut and a punch? I assume a double guillotine would be the best since it would give you the most smoke no?
What do you guys mostly use and when? Do you really think the different type of cuts make a difference in how it smokes and tastes? |

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I usually use a punch unless I am smoking a torpedo. Then I use a guilottine. (sp)

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
when using a v cut it seems to make the draw a little tighter which i like so it makes it harder to rush my cigar. i typically use the double blade gullitone but for cigars known to have a looser draw or bigger cigars i use the v-cut in my opinion it gives a different smoking experience then the gullitone. alslo i dont know if its just me but when using the gullitone cutters sometimes where the first tabacco leaf is wrapped there is a air hole through the cigar in that area making the cigar draw uneven causing a lot of touching up to do and the v cutter doesnt seem to have this problem

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use almost exclusively the V cut. I find it is a nicer smoke, cooler towards the end and for lack of a better word I find it smoother. The only time I use a guillotine now is if the smoke is too tight. In other words yes, I think the different cuts do make a difference in taste and how they smoke, and I prefer the V Cut.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
Although I dont have a punch or a v-cut, I believe it is important to have all the different cutters, because as you wade through the many different types of cigars different circumstances will arrive...I am going to be buying a v-cutter as soon as I can...

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
With smaller ring gauges I like to use a punch. With torpedos I like to use a guillotine. Everything else (not a torpedo but bigger than a corona) I perfer to use a v-cut. However, my v-cutter was lost
, so now I use my guillotine for everything else. |

I prefer using a V-Cut but using 2 cuts in the shape of a cross.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
It sounds like more people use a V-cut then anything else...interesting
I guess I will have to pick up a V-cut to compare |

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use a punch mostly because it helps me to not mangle the tip too much. I'm always afraid that I'll cut too much with a guillotine and end up without a cap halfway through the smoke. I have started to use a v-cut more at the b&m and I like it, although the punch is still my favorite because it assures a "neat" cap.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I've been using a v-cut almost exclusively until the last few days, when I've begun experimenting with a punch on smaller ring gauges. I like them both, but lean heavily to the V. I only seem to use the guillotine if I'm trying to correct draw issues.

Re: How do you prefer to cut your cigar
I use a knife and just cut the paper on the end off. So I don't cut any tobacco off. I like it, it works for me.
