$32.50 for a xikar case?!

Hey guys. To the admins here, my apologies for posting about CC in my previous post. Had no idea it was an issue to discuss certain aspects of CC. It's your job to make sure that all rules are followed in this forum and you sure do a good job of it! Haha. I've never seen a post taken down faster. lol.

Anyways...I've been trying to get some xikar cases and cutters, and I've seen them on a certain website that your members have mentioned, atlanticcigar.com...and I couldn't believe the prices. How can they sell xikar cases for $32.50 and make any profit? Are the real Xikars or fakes? They have cutters that are normally $80 and are selling them for $50 or so. If those are real, I'm ordering scads. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any and all info.

Which cases are you talking about?

There are very few Xikar cutters that are even $80 MSRP. I know I didn't even pay close to $50 for mine, and it's not hard to find a deal like mine. Might want to check on prices a bit before you go buying a bunch.

Re: $32.50 for a xikar case?!

Hey, in Canada, the cheapest I can find them for is $100, so $32.50 is freaking cheap to me. Haha. That's great to know that deals can be found. I had read somewhere about fake Xikar cutters out there, so if I can get a real one for so cheap, great. Everything I have read about atlanticcigars has been positive, so I think I'll give it a go. Plus, I've read that they "Play-ball" shipping wise.

Ah, sorry... didn't catch your location. If the deal is good for you, by all means go for it! The cases actually do look like a pretty good deal. For $32.50 I might pick one up if I didn't have my herfador.

Just a hint if you buy anything from a B&M in Canada your paying to much.

Now I am not suggesting that you don't support your local B&M I just warning that those prices are not MSRP they are inflated (perhaps super-inflated).

B&M = brick & mortar = physical shop you can walk in to.

It had to lurk for a while before I could figure that one out haha.

Re: $32.50 for a xikar case?!

I have two comments here regarding Xihar cutters.

1) Xihar teardrop cutters (double guilotine) come in three styles all with different price points. The Xi1 is stainless steel and retails for about $55 US on-line prices. The Xi2 has carbon fiber housing but the blade is the same. Those go for about $35 US on-line. The Xi3 have special handles like mahogany or something and those go for more than the Xi1.

2) Regarding Canadian prices, I got my Xi1 at a B&M in Toronto for $90 + tax. If I were to do this agin, I would order one from a reputable on-line xource in the US and get the Xi2 for about $35. In fact I get any supplies I need on-line from US sources or from dealextremes.com if I want to take a chance on cheaper stuff.

Hope this helps.

PS regarding cigars, given the sin taxes we pay here, decent cigars go for $15-30 a stick. I found Rocky Patel 1990's for $20 per when I could have gotten them from Holt's for $25/6-pack. My recommendation would be to order from on-line sources in the US or ask people vacationing somewhere to bring them back for you.

Re: $32.50 for a xikar case?!

Thanks for the info about the meaning of "b/m". That would have taken a long time to figure out!

The prices of cigars in Canada are retarded. I just ordered some Rocky Patel sun grown rubustos from thecigarcellar.com. My hope is that I can get some high quality NC and DC from the U.S. and pay half of what I pay in Canada. I'm currently trying to find a mainstay stick that doesn't cost me 25 bucks a smoke. There must be some really high quality sticks for like 10-15 bucks (Maybe less?) a piece from the us. Any suggestions?

P.S. Is there any problem with counterfeit NC and DC in the u.s.? I imagine that with the exception of Fuentes, most for sale online are probably legit right? For instance, the Rocky Patels that I ordered are most likely real, right? I can't tell cause I don't even know if any of the stores in my area sell them.

P.S. 2. Is it alright to discuss the smoking of CC? I understand it is not allowed to discuss where to purchase certain types of cigars (Cough), but are forum members allowed to talk about the smoking experience and make comparisons of CC from an enjoyment perspective?

John, yes the discussion of Cuban cigars is allowed. Like you said, we do ot allow any discussion on how or where to buy them. As far as buying fake non-Cubans, don't worry about that unless you are buying rare or super premium smokes.

Re: $32.50 for a xikar case?!

That's great! I guess it would not be profitable to counterfeit all but the most expensive cigars. My humidors are going to be full. (Just got an end-table humidor with 1000 cigar capacity from cheaphumidors.com. It only cost me $60 in duties!). They are a good company.

It's good that we can talk about CC. So, what are some of your favorite CC sticks? I am quite partial to the Partagas...especially the serie d no 4. I also like the San cristobals and the Montecristo edmundos. Haven't tried any of the Cohibas...I wonder if they are better than the Partagas....probably a little more complex, at least the Siglos and sublimes.

Gary is right on target with the Cigar Caddy. Great construction, and very durable. I've got two (5 and 15 counts). I've got some Xikar stuff too, but I really like my Cigar Caddy travel humidors.

Welcome. There is a forum here entitled "Habanos Discussion," that would be a good place to start a thread with your CC questions; more CC smokers would see it. Read all the stickys a for Newbies -- they will help you a lot. But, everyone here will go to great lengths to help you, too. Regards, Butch.
