Don't mention Pepin by name?

Anyone know why certain cigar retailers hint around but do not mention that cigar is made by Pepin Garcia? CI has done this with their 5 Vegas Miami blend and today I see Famous offering a Garcia Family cigar and the copy says "yes THAT Garcia family". I assume this is some sort of agreement with Pepin because from the retailers point of view it certainly wouldn't hurt to actually say it is made by Pepin.

I don't think its any secret those 2 cigars are made by Pepin.

I know some makers don't want it known that they make cheaper stuff, I guess they think it cheapens their name. For example, some of the Famous stuff like Puros Huerfanos, Nic 4000, 5000, etc

The way I feel about it is... when I hear something new is done by Pepin, I'm indifferent. It seems Pepin has his hands in just about everything lately.

If I were to guess, I bet he has something in his contract that says he gets more if they use his name. Just a thought.

I think this is the reason. Lots of companies protect their names from being associated directly with their lower ranges, especially if their budget product is used for private labels.

I beleive they say it without actually saying it becuase 1. there is only so much that you can say about the 1000 or so different brands in the catalog, and 2. Pepin is a hot commodity right now. If they advertise that cigar X is made by "yes that Garcia family" the likelihood of the impulse purchase just based on name recognition is much higher. If they hint around the name its like you are making some landmark discovery that (fill in your brand here) cigars are going to smoke like the $10.00 ones you see at the local B&M because it is a Pepin. Similar to what happened with Fuentes during the boom. If it had a Fuente name on it or was associated with fuente it was scooped up in droves. Whether it was a curly head deluxe, it's a boy/it's a girl, Montesino or a dbl chateau people bought them just because of the status that the name carried. Of course just my $.02

I disagree with that a little bit.

I wont' smoke something just because Pepin made it. But if I'm on the fence or it's a really good deal knowing it was blended by Pepin might be enough to sway me to give it a try.

You have tons of bland sticks out there. At least with a Pepin product I know I'm going to get something interesting.

I guess the next step is pepin being involved in the next 1000 gurhka lines to come out in the next 24 hours lol Not for nothing, but i think ghurka should slow it down a bit. Pepin is only doing what anybody else would do in his shoes, capitalize off of his name because he is hot right now. It is like that in music, sports, etc.
