nemesis bidder - common experience?
Hi all. So this post is a mild rant and a question for the other forum members.
I just started smoking cigars a couple months ago, the cold weather is starting to roll in, and I'm looking for some flavoured cigars/cigarillos that my girlfriend would like to try (she enjoys hookah tobacco much more). Thanks to you guys, I've become addicted to the devil site and I've been checking it nearly every day for the past week for some good deals. Right now I'm looking for some cigarillo tins, petite coronas, and samplers of mild cigars and flavoureds. However, I'm on a budget. There is one bidder I see on a large proportion of lots I want to bid on. When the bid amount is still low, I enter my maximum bid and the guy outbids me every time. Today, I saw him in half the lots I was interested in. Needless to say, it's a bit frustrating. But I can't stay mad at the guy, because he's a fellow BOTL and has good taste in cigars (IMHO). And, he's saving me money. Still, it'd be nice if he'd take a vacation from bidding and give me a chance .Does this happen to anyone else? |

Re: nemesis bidder - common experience?
I hate when people on cbid feel the need the buy the whole lot. Like for example. when theres 7 5-packs of a cigar and one person buys all 7 of them. Very annoying.

Re: nemesis bidder - common experience?
I feel your pain as I have been a CBID member for over a year now. Here's the thing about CBID, be patient and bid only what you can afford and never over bid on an auction where you could have bought it at a B&M or another online site. CBID tends to bring out the "sharpshooters" who get caught up in the bid process and eventually sometimes overbid on auctions. Use the CHIMP system to see what the average is on your favorite cigars and use the "Watch List" and come back when the auction is almost over and see if it is near your pricing. I usually win about 30% of my bids and keep my pricing at a point where the CHIMP system tells me how much the avg. really is. If you are bidding on hard to find or premium cigars be prepared to pay a bit more. I have been seeing for example the 1932 Padilla Sig. Churchill going for around $130 when they sale for around $180 to over $200 online. Know your product and pricing so you don't get burned and have patience.
Cigar greed is an ugly thing, is it not? I can still remember when the Opus X came out and I would stand in line to buy one and the guy in front of me instead of leaving one for the next person bought the last 10 and turned around and looked at me and just shrugged,,like,,too bad so sad.
