Breaking the ice

Hey fellas,

New to the forum and new to the cigar experience. I've only smoked a few cigars in my life and then a friend of mine gave me a CAO Soprano Associate the other day and it hit me like a brick wall. A humidor, and $300 worth of Punch, Cohiba, 5 Vegas, Oliva, and CAO later....here I sit seeking more wisdom.
Just had a few question to start
1.) My home (Texas) seldom gets below 77 degrees in the summer. Not ready to get a coolidor, I was wondering about beatles. Are the eggs present in all cigars? Is 77 degrees rediculously high?
2.) Is there anybody out there that frequents international airports in Europe or Asia? I am wondering if these airport shops are just overpriced, or has someone found a few deals?

My appologies in advance if this has been covered. I find that this forum is laid out in an unusual way and it may take a few hours to get used to the search functionality.

Where in TX are you? I'd die if I couldn't get it down to 73 in my house, even in the summer. You definitely won't have a problem during the winter, I think. Maybe by next summer you'll want a coolidor. I'm not planning on getting one, but then I don't have the AC problem you have. I don't think 77 is too high, but others around here are much better experts than I am. You might check into getting a locker at a local shop for the cigars that will sit a while, and then just keep a few weeks worth at home. I know of at least one shop where a locker is like $10/ month.

BTW...Welcome to Puff! It's a great community!

Re: Breaking the ice

Welcome from Colorado!

77 should be just fine. Although others with more experience may want to chime in. As far as buying in airports I would stay away from them. Prices are extremely inflated there.

Cheers,
Brad

Re: Breaking the ice

Hey Kevin! Welcome to Puff!

I personally believe that 77 is too high...I have air conditioning and It keeps it at around 70 in the summer. But if I had a problem with keeping it that low, I would buy a vinotemp (wine cooler) and convert it into a humidor. You will learn all about this when you go crazy into this hobby...but untill then they will be just fine at 77...

Nacogdoches area. I may design a peltier set up, but that would mean I need a new humidor. Ouch....I feel my arm being twisted
