yeah I think 3 a day is a little much for just starting out you should probably give your taste buds a bit of time to build up to that level of smoke saturation. but eventually Im sure 3 + daily will be tasted with ease. just give it time.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

I've been smoking a while now and I've also found that cigars aren't tasting as good to me anymore. They used to be a treat now they're becoming more of a habit and I don't find it as enjoyable. Going to "try" to cut down for a while and see if that helps.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

Yeah, I think maybe try giving your mouth a break bro! How's food tasting? I bet that food doesn't taste as good either, at least that's what happens to me. During the summer I was smoking 1 and sometimes 2 a day. I used to be a cig smoker, in my prime I was burning up 2 packs of Newport 100's a day plus a pack of cloves on the weekends.

Since I finally quit smoking cigs about a year ago, I don't smoke cigars as part of the rotation in my fiendish habit anymore. My opinion is also coming from the mouth of a newb, but if I were smoking 3 cigars a day, I think I'd want to evaluate the reason I'm smoking so many. Plus I could never afford that lol. However, if you're happy doing it, by all means go for it!

Thanks for the input guys. I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a break for a couple of days.

I imagine your taste buds may be a little worn out, and like you said it can't hurt to take a few days break.

You're getting used to them and they don't impress you as much anymore......or not.
I know I have 2 Humidors full of cigars I don't really smoke anymore.

To me cigars are kinda like this. "Too much of a good thing is not always a good thing". I may smoke a cigar once a week, maybe. But some days I may smoke 2-3, just not everyday.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

I'm not sure if your troubles are from smoking to many cigars or smoking them a little too fast. I've found over the years that when I'm smoking more I also seem to pick up the pace of my puffs and the smoke tends to get a little hotter than it should. Without really noticing you can kind of cook your taste buds and it takes some time for them to repair.

Try slowing down and take more times between puffs along with cutting back on the number of sticks. Give your palette a chance to rest and repair.

LOTS of really good suggestions here! I also have more than a few cigars in my humidors that I will probably never go back to. Just chalk it up to taste evolution. Longer you smoke the more you will find your tastes evolving.

Most of the time, for me, all I can have is 1 a day. Seems like the flavors become muted on the 2nd one. I will occasionally smoke a 2nd one but I will make sure that it is a complimentary smoke to the 1st. Like smoking a Padron Londres after an Illusione CG4. Just seems to work b/c they are both Nicaraguan puros.

Without a doubt, taking a few days off can work wonders for the palette. I have also found it useful (as have others) to have a "point of reference" cigar. By this I mean something that always tastes good to you and is always consistent. You can "reset/re-align" your palette this way. For example: my "point of reference" cigar is Padron 3KN. Now if that doesn't taste good to me, then I know I've got to step away for a few days. No use firing up good cigars when you can't fully appreciate them!

Good luck!

Sometimes you need to give your palette a break.
