Am i smoking too much?

I have been smoking between 1 and three cigars daily for about a month or so. The past couple of days a have noticed that every cigar i light up, tastes pretty bad to me. Last night i smoked one of my favorites (Oliva G Maduro) and i threw it out after the halfway point, it just didn't taste right. Today the same thing happened with a Padron 3000. I'm not sick or anything, could it be that i'm smoking too much?? Has this ever happened to any of you?

Re: Am i smoking too much?

Your profile says you just started, I would just cut down and see what happens, Like Rookee say's three is fairly normal, I smoked less but was a cig smoker and quit 8 months or so ago and now smoke cigars all day. Did you use snuff or cigs before you started cigars, may be to much nicotine to fast.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

As a fairly new smoker, I smoke upwards of one a day, but each palate is different. I know if I smoke more than one a day, its too much tobacco for my body to handle.

I have on occasion had 2-3 sticks in one day and it made me feel sickly. I average out to about 1 stick every other day or so. Try to see where you tolerance is...maybe give it a week off, and see what happens to your tastebuds!

Re: Am i smoking too much?

It's not the nicotine, it's just that all my favorites taste bad to me now. Maybe my taste buds are shot or changing. Just seems like i'm not enjoying them.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

That sometimes happens to me also. And I rarely smoke more than one a day except for my day off. Now and again cigars seem to lose their flavor for me. Everyone's palate and sensitivity is a little different. What is normal for one of us may be too much fior some others. I also don't like a steady diet of full bodied cigars, my favorite smokes are mostly medium. I've been smoking for a long time, so it isn't because I'm a noob.

Go with what works for you.

Maybe stop for a few days and see if your taste comes back to normal.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

I was thinking the same thing after having a pretty nasty one the other night, so I grabbed a 5V classic for the game tonight and its preforming as expected, with buttery smoothness, sooooo. Man! what a competitive game,

I`d suggest you get real acquainted with a favorite so you can always go back to it and check the taster, works for me,

I smoke three of four a day after smoking a pack and half a day for many years, its a fair trade off and from what I hear, perfectly normal.

Cheers,
Randy

Re: Am i smoking too much?

This exact same thing happened to me. I had been smoking a few cigars a day for about six months, and one day, everything tasted bad. At first I thought I had a bad stick, so I fired up another. Still bad. After putting out three cigars, I stopped for the day and figured I was about to come down with a bug. I waited two days, and felt just fine. Started smoking again, with no problems.
My brother, I can not tell you why this happened to me. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Ha. All I can say, is take a break, see what happens.

Who says only cigars are allowed to rest?

Re: Am i smoking too much?

Yes, happened/happens to me. Some weekends I go hog wild and end up frying my taste buds. It's not from smoking too fast, just too many over the course of several days. I usually take a few days off so I can get back to enjoying the cigars.
Nicotine has nothing to do with it for me either. I chewed Cope (at one point a can every 2 days) for almost 22 years before quiting when I was 35. Haven't had a stick yet that could knock me back (although some have come close) with a buzz.

I'd say rest at least a day, maybe two, and then try one. The mouth (as with most of the entire digestive system) has some of the fastest regenerative cells in the body and will come back fast. Besides, if you wait a few days....just think of the anticipation!

Re: Am i smoking too much?

Just slow down a little. When you start back, smoke the cheapest dog rocket you can find. That way, anything else is bound to taste so much better. There, problem solved. Besides, you are only smoking too much if your butt starts flaming!

Re: Am i smoking too much?

One a day... make it a ritual... end of day... or whatever

Take a break now and then.

I got sick this weekend...stress... antibiotics... and to much of a strong cigar can overload your body and palate

Re: Am i smoking too much?

LOL. So thats why I`m saving those Donna Patricia`s.

I determined this morning that those Dp`s will be the absolute very last cigars I ever smoke if I ever get to that miserable point in the supply, and that is highly doubtful.

So if I ever do smoke another one, it`ll have a very good age on it! LOLOLOL.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

I also believe that smoking several a day or even 2 in a row can saturate our taste buds. The solution seems to be to take a break for a day or 2 or 3....

As Ben Franklin said, "moderation in all things"....

It might be more of a psychological thing. I know when I first start a hobby and do it once in a while, it's really exciting. Like smoking my pipe. When I do it once or twice a week, it's really special for me. When I smoke it every day, I notice it just isn't the same.

Re: Am i smoking too much?

I know this time of year, my sinuses get stopped up and everything tastes funny! Lots of time I can still breathe thru my nose, but there is pressure in my ears an in my upper sinuses above my eyes.
