Almost burned down my house (not really)

Here's the PM I sent teedles last night:

I just had a minor emergency at home. I decided to smoke a pipe tonight, so I lit it as normal & tossed the match in a "trash box" where I throw all of my pipe cleaning supplies, cigar butts, etc. away. The box as well as all of my cigars & pipe stuff is in the basement. I walked upstairs to enjoy my pipe while studying. It seemed like my pipe was putting off a lot of really, really bad smelling smoke, & I thought hmm.....that's weird. Kept getting to be more & more smoke though. Finally I started to realize something was terribly wrong. I ran downstairs amid a CLOUD of smoke & saw that box up in flames right next to my humidor!!!! In that moment of panic I grabbed a used coffee mug, filled it up with water, & poured it all over the box. Well the box is out and everything is ok, so I start to open up some windows to get the smoke out of the house.......then the fire alarm goes off. Holy crap it was loud, I have NO IDEA how it didn't wake my wife up (scary actually). After I got that shut off, I opened the front door & put a fan in front of it. It's getting better now, but smells horrible. The wife is gonna be pretty pissed in the morning when she smells the house.

The cigars are safe though......

Update: house is starting to smell normal again.

Thats funny...Sorry I had to laugh a bit.

I actually burned the entire kitchen out and had it out before the volunteer fire department had made it to my house...grease no smoking..LOL

Hopefully the smell leaves soon..but use some arm n hammer and that will help.

LOL she did find out actually. She woke up when I crawled into bed (go figure). She said "Jeff, what is that horrible smell?" I told her I farted.

Sorry, my lame attempt at humor. I told her the truth. I value my life too much to lie.

Re: Almost burned down my house (not really)

Guess it could have been worse, glad it didn't get any bigger. Could have went with, "that's the worst damn tobacco I have ever smoked, smells like someone set the house on fire". 20/20 hindsight of course.

Hahaha, I love how your first reaction to a fire in the basement is "OH SHIT, my cigars!"

Glad to hear everything's OK though. Spray Febreze everywhere.

Re: Almost burned down my house (not really)

Glad everything is all right, but that is funny. My kids don't wake up when our smoke alarms go off. That is scary.

On the subject, we got home from our trip last saturday and immedietly upon getting out tf the truck we all smelled smoke, but not like a fire. In the house it was worse. Now the wife, the kids and I were walking around the house sniffing, trying to figure out what it was. After about 15 minutes I noticed a note from my dad who was house sitting:

Smoke Smell
?
Microwave turned
my french fries
black

We were freaking for awhile there looking for a fire. Let me tell you, burned microwave fries smell horrible and the microwave still stinks. We could smell it outside cause he dumped them in the trash. Your story reminded me of that.

Funny story Dan, at least it turned out to be nothing.

I did snap a picture of the damage.....it's starting to get funny now.
