Well, my first Ashton Virgin Sungrown

it's a robusto

I'm fond of the Rocky VSGs, so I'm hoping for a nice experience.

I used a punch on this one too, instead of the Xikar

Yeah, uneventful, but the title was worth it!

Nice stick!

Not having my usual Scotch with it though, as my stomach has been a bit irritated lately.

Not sure I care for the restricted draw of the punch vs. clipping the cap with a cutter.

I will say that Ashton really produces a well-made cigar that burns straight and true and requires no touchups!

Honestly? I wasn't as excited about it as most of you. Could have been that my taste buds were off?

It was a little to strong and lingering on my palate (back of tongue). Aroma and flavor (front of tongue) was great.

As with all Ashton's, the construction, and burn were impeccable.

I'm a fan of the Rocky Patel Sun Growns, but this particular stick didn't excite me.

I'll give it another go in a month or so.

Thanks for the review. You say it was a bit strong; I'm wondering if Don Pepin had a hand in its development? I know he produced Ashton's La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial and the San Cristobal, so it's possible. His flavor profile always includes pepper (which I'm a fan of)...clearly, more research is needed!

Thanks again! I think you're right to season them for a while; the spice should even out a bit.
