Smoke Tatuaje Day: Support for Pete Johnson

By now, a majority of this forum knows that there is a legal issue going on with the similar symbol used on the cigar bands between Altadis and Tatuaje. If not, check it out here.

Now to the main point of the topic. I am a member of the Centro Cigar's facebook group. Centro Cigar's is based out of Lawrence, KS. Today they started a Smoke Tatuaje Day, showing their support for Pete Johnson. I really feel like this is a good idea, and something this forum could also do to show their support for Pete in this issue. Maybe every Friday of the month, every other Friday, or even one Friday a month.

While I know, not everyone can get their hands on a Tat, El Triunfador, Ambos Mundos, La Riqueza...etc. (I can't either). Just think of Pete the next cigar you smoke, doesn't matter what it is.

Hopefully this issue can be resolved soon. And until then....Smoke 'em to show your support for Pete Johnson!

I am totally down with that. I would smoke a tat everyday if I could. I will on Fridays. Every Friday.

How about trying to limit or boycott Altadis products to give them a hint. Why would the situation change just because someone thinks about the defendant while smoking a cigar. If altadis gets a letter from a group in protest of the suit and then notices that they are selling less and less, it might make them realize that their lawsuit is frivolous.

I will smoke for the cause! But I agree, we should be a bit more proactive then just smoking in thought or support of someone.

I think y'all are making more out of this court case than Pete is.. from my understanding Pete has already determined his next course of action and this will be over with very soon, if not already.

That being said, I do support the notion of Supporting Pete and all other Boutiques!

If you want to support him don't smoke anything and think of him.
That's just wrong....you know like those cell phone companies.
Then there will be the slow ones smoking Monti's thinking of Pete.

If you don't like the fact that he is using the same symbol as Monti and you think it should be ok then stop smoking Monti's and whatever that company is.

I don't know anything about copyright infringement but I thought you couldn't use the same stuff in the same field.

Like you can use the fleur de whatever in cigars and on clothing but I thought it wasn't an infringement. But on 2 different brands of cigars.....I thought it is a no no

not that I'm overly concerned with the logistics of the case:

The Fleur de Lis is public domain. It's not a trademarkable or copyrightable item. The Montecristo logo has cross swords with a FdL inside of it.

They are claiming branding infringement because some of the bands and Garcia's factory name are similar.

All of them are a stretch, although if they had their chance to fight it, they might win part of it.

In the end it doesn't really matter to me.... I would would smoke a Tat even if it had a picture of a steaming pile of doggy poo-poo on the band. They're still great cigars, & I'll continue to smoke em till they're not.

As soon as my flu gets better, a tat it will be.
Personally i think the lawsuit is BS, If i was a decision maker for big company like Altadis i would focus on giving my customers the best products possible, the next "must have", a new cigar standard, etc. I wouldn't waste time harassing someone because they put a very common logo on their cigars which i also happen to use. Tatuaje does not sell because of a logo, their very simple band is backed up by a world class cigar.

Hey guys, I did not want this thread to get political in any way. Yes whatever is going on between them is crap. But I just wanted to show some support for Pete, and have another reason to enjoy a fine cigar is all.

No problem for me, Tatuaje is my primary smoke, and at least one or two a day is the norm.

Had my first Reserva SW last night just because of this thread, and have to say, it was one of the best tasting smokes i've had to date.
