Dog Rockets

Ok we have all had or have those cigars that we shy away from. Being that I am new (and alot of newbies here) and starting to try and purchase some cigars what should all of us stay away from. We know the obvious. Cremosa and Fighting Cock. But what are the dog rockets in disguise?

They still make Tamborils? I had one years ago and it's hands down the worst cigar I've ever smoked.

There are a lot of low quality low priced cigars out there that are at least tolerable, given the price. But a Tamboril is like antibuse for cigar addicts-- if you want to stop smoking, smoke Tamborils.

The hands down worst cigar ever was a no band $1.35 stick I got in San Antonio. First draw was super sweet, second drag wasn't bad, third was kinda so-so, fourth was horrid, and it went down from there. I smoked maybe a 1/16" of it, maybe 8 draws. It was foul.

May I ask why you listed "pre-embargos" as dog rockets?
Have you smoked many?

Re: Dog Rockets

The worst one for me to date was the La Estrella Cubana wine cured wrapper smoke.. Nasty. A quote I do like however is "There are no BAD cigars, just cigars that you don't particularly care for"

OTLoki is probably talking about the pre-embargo counterfeits from JR's. I can't imagine an authentic pre-embargo being a dog rocket, although I've never tried one.

Well I should have clarified that I guess. The cheap "pre-embargos" that so many try and pass off as 100% real cubans. The one I got was $5 and it was flat out nasty

The pre-embargo cigars from Jr's are good quality kick your a** smokes. If you read the ad it's more toung in cheek and not actually pre-embargo tobacco. Now the 2 pre-embargo cigars I have wasted my money on were a pintar 3000 or something, which before smoking that I smoked a psd4 just to compare and well, the pintar was a dog rocket hands down. The other was some Gurkah that had "pre-embargo tobacco in it. Dog rocket as well.

Wow, I never knew that the JR pre-embargo counterfeits could actually be good. I laugh every time I see that ad in their catalog. I might have to try them sometime.

Instead of a dog rocket, I would call it more of a "well constructed flavor-infused stogie that many people dislike, but have found a niche market" . I did just buy a fiver of Java's by Drew Estate from PuffDaddy, though I had bad experiences with the Acids. I've heard good things.
