Rate of Consumption

I apologize if this topic has been previously covered...

I was just in Top 25 in the review database and read someone's comment that the Short Story is a nice 45 minute smoke. Maybe cause I smoke alone and have no way to compare, but, Wow, that little smoke is like 20 minutes max for me.

I'm honestly wondering if I hoover down my smokes in an uncivilized manner, or does that seem like a rather slow rate of consumption. Am I not slowing down to smell the roses?

Re: Rate of Consumption

It's easy to smoke em too fast when you are alone. Slower is always better. Get a cooler burn and more subtle flavor nuances. Little cigars such as Demi Tasse get overpowered quickly and you miss what they have to offer, if you don't smoke em slow.

Do an experiment. Try smoking the same cigar but force yourself (with a timer) to alternate 1 and 2 minute pauses between puffs. See what you think.

Re: Rate of Consumption

If you don't the patience or willpower to wait 1 - 2 minutes between puffs, try smoking 2 at a time. That should give you the best of both worlds.

Re: Rate of Consumption

Slow down! Da Klugs is right, you are likely missing out on some of the best flavors of the cigar by huffing it so fast. Pay attention to the cigar and it will tell you how fast to smoke it.

Re: Rate of Consumption

On one of the DWSC shows, they mentioned that if the "cherry" of the cigar is like a point, then you are smoking it too fast. It should be very even, almost flat, but can have a small cone shape.

Re: Rate of Consumption

In addition the sage advice given above I've found that if I'm doing something while smoking (i.e. reading), then the cigar lasts twice as long. Regardless, 20 minutes for a Short Story - damn!! Slow Down is right.

Re: Rate of Consumption

I'm in the habit of taking 30-60 secs. between puffs; tastes better than "hot boxing" the stick.... A Short Story easily lasts me approx 45 minutes.
Stop and smell the roses once in a while

Re: Rate of Consumption

I have to force myself to slow down many a time getting on to myself for not RELAXING. That is, after all, one of my main reasons for lighting up.

I'll tell ya what though, and this is a rare agreement. I don't offer this up to anyone.. but you send me one of your Short Story's, and I'll see how long it takes me to burn it down. Just kiddin..
