CI, Cigar Bid, Thompsons the same??

Have bought a few times now from Cigar Bid. A bundle of Pirates Gold, and a bundle of 20 Puros Indios robustos variety pack with 4 different blends. Ive been smoking stogs for 12yrs and thought I knew alot of brands and names. Yet I see alot of names I dont recognize on Cigar Bid so I will google them to find out more before bidding. Upon searching I notice alot of the brands only come up on Cigar bid which I realize is also CI, but they also come up under Thompsons. Is Thompsons and CI the same company or related somehow? I dont want to end up buying some "Thompsons Exclusive" trash that didnt sell well and ended up going to Cigar Bid. The Pirates Gold smokes good but it does have that cheesy looking band on it that looks like something Thompsons would do. The Puros Indios on the other hand are better and I think I had heard of them before, but did notice Thompsons sells those also. I may purchase more of the Puros Indios. Either way just curious if anyone else has noticed this commonality or knows the deal.

Just becuase they sell some of the same sticks doesn't mean they are the same company. Is my local b&m the same people that run your local b&m just becuase they carry the same lines? Nope.

Thompsons has nothing to do with the other two - but the devil site is CI.
And, Pirate's Gold is a Puros Indios product.

BTW, what did you think of the Pirate's Gold?

Like the guys say, Cigarbid is owned & operated by Cigars International & there is no affiliation with Thompson Cigars.

Although Thompson has more "house brands" than Carter has little pills.......neither Puros Indios, nor Pirates Gold are among them.

Thanks for the quick courteous reply to you and Kansashat. Did notice too that sometimes you can just goto CI and purchase the same bundle they are auctioning off on CB for about the same price and get it now instead of auction end. Makes sense since they are one in the same. And as far as the Pirates Gold they were the ones made by Reyes Sr. And I really do like them, actually so much that I started hording them under my other cigars so Ill forget about them sometimes to make them last longer!

I'm sure that others here can attest that CigarBid buyers can get caught up in auction fever and wind up paying more than retail. The high bidding is most visible on scarce products like PAMs, PANs, Anejos (recently, a single Shark went for $41.00) and the like. The CigarCyclopedia site (http://www.cigarcyclopedia.com/cigar...ces_cigars.php) is a great resource to check retail pricing before placing a bid.

I would suggest that if you're interested in something on Cbid, check CI and bid 75% of what they're selling 'em for there. If you lose the auction, you can still pick them up at CI, if you win, you know you got a deal. Use autobid and bid once. That way you don't get carried away in the excitement and end up bidding too much.

This is the method I use and have ended up getting some nice sticks for the price some of the cheaper ones normally go for.

This is "exactly" what I do.

While CI and Cbid have nothing to do with Thompson's, both companies have cigars that are exclusive to catalog sales only, and they both get a lot of Cigar Boom leftovers and closeouts. That's why you see certain brands available only in their catalogs, and listed as "exclusive" stuff.

Re: CI, Cigar Bid, Thompsons the same??

I went pretty nuts on Cigarbid the last two months. Most of my pruchases were 30% of what they sell for on Cigars International - granted that may be the result of an overly inflated retail price. The more popular brands I did pay more for, but rarely over 50 %. The Toranos I got were closest to retail - about 70%.
I recommend reading a lot of reviews on CS and the sister site "Top 25 Cigar" - the link is at the top of this page to get an idea of what you might want to try.
Just so happens I smoked a Victor Sinclair vintage select last night (paid 45%), and a Victor Sinclair Bohemian Black Oscuro (paid 35%) off Cigarbid.com. I thought they were both very good - have never smoked anything by Victor Sinclair before.
Still expanding my smoking horizons, but got a lot of good info on excellent value priced cigars from posts by TXMatt. Seems he has moved on to higher end smokes for the most part, but his posts generated and provided good info for where I am on the cigar spectrum.

Maybe a newb question, but I've seen the term "devil site" more than once. Is there a further explanation? For my part, I've ordered twice from CI (small orders) and they arrived in 48 hours at no extra shipping charg, and at reasonable prices...

Re: CI, Cigar Bid, Thompsons the same??

I just learned a great deal from this thread on how to properly use Cbid in relation to CI.

My wallet thanks you gentlemen.

The "devil site" refers to the fact that once you get sucked in to bidding and winning auctions you will loose all control and begin bidding on everything. From 5ers to boxes.... and as your auction winnings begin to pile up your credit cards begin to burn up with use and your poor UPS driver will grow weary from the loads of cigars being delivered to your home...

all in all I see nothing wrong with this...

It has nothing to do with their delivery or customer service, which is excellent.

I haven't used CBid yet because of the fear of getting addicted.
