Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I have only been smoking cigars for about six months now but I have found myself reaching for a maduro about nine times out of ten every time I go to my humidor. I still smoke the other wrappers just to give me some variety in taste but the maduro is my favorite.
It doesn't really matter about the brand of cigar I'm smoking, the maduro offers me something I just haven't found with any other wrapper. The gentle sweetness and smooth taste with no bite or harshness, just love them. I know you will find some maduro cigars that are nothing more than dog rockets, but in general if you take the same filler and binder and put a good maduro wrapper on it the taste and flavor will be better than with any other wrapper. Just my opinion, Bill |

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I think a lot of us go through maduro madness, and it can strike repeatedly.. I had an attack of it about 18 months ago. I sampled every maduro cigar I could get my hands on. The sweet, earthy flavors with coffee and chocolate notes that are predominate in maduros are quite enjoyable.
My maduro madness passed though, and my humidor went from 90% maduro to around 25%. If you are like me, you will again begin dabbling in cameroon, rosado, and sungrown. Then you will find your way back to natural wrappers... eventually. I now find there are some cigars I prefer the natural wrapper to the maduro, but there are days nothing but a maduro will suffice. -Matt- Quote:

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
Im in the maduro phase as well, although I think Im getting toward the end of it.. as I like corojo stuff as well, and the occasional mild connecticut wrapper.

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
Like Matt says, some cigars seem to be better on the nattie side........one that comes to mind is the Carlos Torano Reserva Selecta......the maduro is an airball to me, while the nattie has a very nice flavor profile.
As of late, I have been on a sun grown kick. ![]()

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
i appreciate most for what they are. cameroon for its saltie/sweet taste, cameroon for its mellow complexity, sumatra fo its spiciness, connecticut for it natural sweetness and ceaminess, corojo for its spiciness and knockout complexity. all wrappers have something to offer, the more you smoke them the more you are able to appreciate them, a nice blend behind them also helps.

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I too am hooked on maduros at this time. I can't get away from them. I had to force myself to pick up a Natural Padron 2000 yesterday. I am anxious to see how I feel about it, I have heard great things about that nattie.

I too am a maduro head. No real rhyme or reason. I think their oily dark wrappers pull me in more than the flavor profile.

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
It's about 50/50 for me. Went through the heavy maduro phase, but I'm passing through it - not that I won't always have a bunch of maddies in the humidor. Maddies just have an allure and (IMO) are more attractive. They draw you to purchase them - not to mention that the taste is generally good. When you see that dark chocolate color you can't help yourself sometimes.

The maduro that I absolutely keep in my humidor is the LGC Serie R No. 5. Even a few #4's. I don't know what it is, but I really like those Serie R maddies.

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I enjoy the maduro wrapper on most cigars and will choose it over the natural if there's a choice...however there a couple that I actually enjoy more in natural....like the ERDM Flor De Llaneza and (gasp) most of the Padron Anniversary lines. And that's why the cigarmakers put different wrappers on thier cigars!

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I've been stuck in this "phase" for a very long time. 6:1 ratio of maddies to other wrappers in my humi right now. Everyone here is right, it's something about the appearance that draws you in every time.

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
Maduro's just don't do it for me . I do like some but most have a tart taste to me that I just can't take . I have some Partagas Black Magnifico's that are great . Sungrown's seem to be my weakness , absolutely love them . Can't pull myself away from them in the stores , alway's walk out with a handful of Fuente's and RP's . I've got only one Fuente 858 SG and I'm afraid to smoke it for fear of being addicted and doing whatever it takes to get more .
Theose Cusano Corojo's are pretty darn tasty also . |

Re: Maduros, Maduros And More Maduros
I started out with Natural, then to Corojo, then dabbled with Crillojo, then Maduro, simply because I discovered some very good smokes which had Maduro wrappers. I also like the sungrown wrappers very much and, I also discovered I don't care much for the sumatran wrapper.
For me though, I am a little bit concerned that I may be too much into variety, and haven't settled on one type of go to smoke.
