Devil Site Madness Friday Edition

far be it for me to say how a person should spend their money, but this could be a tad excessive.

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=358390

You could buy a box for this amount!

Got to love the people willing to pay over retail for crap on Cbid.

Re: Devil Site Madness Friday Edition

JS of Mililani, HI has bid $59 bucks on Cbid for a fiver he could have picked up on CI for $22. A box of twenty only would have cost him $75.

One can only hope he never finds out.

I honestly dont think people read the auctions before bidding sometimes.

He may have thought he was getting a box and saving $14 off the CI price? Didn't realize he was getting a 5'er..

It's a shame you can't see the bidding history. Someone else must have bid at least $57 for the same five rockets.

What the?! These guys are crazy. He must not know what he is bidding on. There is no way he has a clue. I wonder who else bid him up that high? Scary!

Re: Devil Site Madness Friday Edition

Personally I sometimes think Cigars International has "rogue" bidders that work for the store and bid the prices of items up to a certain dollar value. If they win it's a scratched auction, but that system guarantees set prices. I also think there is the possibility of them knowing your highest max bid and bidding right to that, I'm obviously very cynical though.

I do not think this happens all the time, and it might not happen at all. I have got some deals on CBid that were 50% under Cigars International prices.

The technical term is "shill". Ebay strongly discourages shilling. The term does not appear on the CBid help page. Unlike Ebay, there's only one seller on Cbid.

One way to avoid being vulnerable to getting shilled is to use the preferred Cbid protocol (use autobid to bid 75% of the asking price on CI). This way you're guaranteed of a deal if you win and you're guaranteed not to get hosed like our friend JS of Mililani, HI.
