Re: I get the feeling that saving cigars for "special occasions"

i see nothing wrong with saving cigars for "special occasions" but no need to hold rigidly to it -- if the mood strikes you, light it up! if not...break it out on your next "special" occasion!

Its only a rolled up weed, smoke it whenever you want. When I want to smoke something for a special occasion I will usually smoke a favorite cigar I've already tried. Breathing and making it through another day is enough of a special occasion for me to smoke a Cohiba Sublime or a HdM DC.

Ageing a cigar you don't like won't make it any better, but ageing a smoke you do like will make it amazing.

Bottom line, do whatever floats your boat!
You wouldn't want to share your source would you? J/K

That is a good point...I had a very vintage Cuban (actually a few of them) at a herf. They were gifted to me by a VERY generous BOTL. I had only had one Cuban before this. I regret that I didn't have anything to compare it to. My palate was so new, that I didn't know what a special experience this was. The others there were blown away by the smokes, but I just enjoyed it like another stick. Sometimes it is good to have a fair amount (how many is up to you) of sticks before you burn a premium, high dollar stick. When you work your way up to the premiums you will appreciate them more. The special occasion part is up to you.

Re: I get the feeling that saving cigars for "special occasions"

I approach cigar smoking as if every cigar I smoke may be my last. Therefore all my cigars are "special".

Re: I get the feeling that saving cigars for "special occasions"

I have a box in the humi for special smokes - 5 Anejo's, a few Opus X, a few BTL's etc. I'm not in that big of a hurry to smoke them (although I've smoked one BTL and one Anejo).
The reason? I've found my dream smoke already- AF 858 maduro. Not expensive, easy to find, and every time I light one up it feels like a special occasion... Larry.
