Inhaling

I read through an old thread recently and saw that almost no one inhales while smoking their cigars. However, I find that I don't get near as much of the taste of the cigar w/o inhaling. For those of you that don't (pretty much everyone) is the possibly something that I'm doing wrong when not inhaling or is there something that I could do to get more of the taste w/o inhaling.

Re: Inhaling

I personally don't inhale, nor do I think I could. In order to get a more full taste you can allow a little smoke to be exhaled from your mouth through your nose. Thats where a lot of the taste comes from anyway.

Re: Inhaling

Well your not alone - I'm an inhaler also. Just natural from smoking all these years I guess as I have a hard not inhaling. I will also inhale and exhale through the nose - adds a lot more to it. Maybe try that if you haven't already.

Re: Inhaling

I dont inhale the smoke but i find i can maximise the taste i get from the cigar by not smoking with a cold or when allergies flare up. Also, try to avoid hot or spicy or strong tastes before you smoke as these things will hinder your ability to taste the cigar. However, these rules may not apply to you and my only advice would be to stick to how you get the most enjoyment from your cigars, which in your case seems to be inhaling!

mike makes a good point-the reason many people do not inhale [me included] is not because its doin something inherently wrong, but because they physically cant and it makes an unpleasant experience!

If I inhale my cigar smoke, it's an accident and I regret it.

I find the best way, for me, to savor all the cigar has to offer is to inhale some of my own second-hand smoke through the nose.
I've never smoked cigarettes, never inhaled, ahem, anything really.
Accidentally inhaling cigar smoke directly is not pleasant for me.
I am too old to start inhaling now.
Though I can see how, once accustomed to inhaling, it could increase the pleasure.
Plus, I don't want to tempt fate.

Re: Inhaling

I have been smoking something in my life for the past 40 years... I started with cigarettes which I smoked for the majority of my life. At one time I was a pipe smoker, but then I moved and could not find a good blend. For the past three years I have been smoking cigars exclusivly. I do not intentionally inhale, but on occasion I do. It even for me is not a pleasant experience. I do not think that inhaling does anything to increase the pleasure I get from cigars. I could be wrong.

Re: Inhaling

Sounds like everyone's way of enjoying a cigar (inhaling or not) differs as much as they types of cigars and wrappers that they like.

Re: Inhaling

I accidentally inhale once in a while & it is unpleasant to say the least. That being said I am a prodigious nose smoker. I French inhale the smoke through my nose & somehow avoid getting it to the lungs. I also exhale through my nose with almost every puff. I have found that nose smoking greatly enhances the flavor of a cigar.

This is hard on the sinus'. I am limited to 1-2 cigars a day because if I smoked more on a regular basis, my sinus' would become inflamed.

Tom? You readin' this?

Re: Inhaling

I like to exhale through the nose now and then, but if I accidentally inhale more than a couple of times then it pretty much ruins the whole cigar for me.

What he said! That works best for me as well. Unfortunately, I do accidently inhale, once and a while and it gags the hell out of me.
