Those reviews are about as close as I'll get to any of the cigars featured in that segment!

Bruce makes a fair point but imo the mag is still far too detached from your average stogie smoker to be worth the money. especially with all the cigar related internet sites and forums of course!

Managed to pickup a few copies here and there over the last year or so. Most of the mag is glossy trash for me the only part im interested in is the smoke section - not so much the reviews but the couple of articles.

As always, The Onion nailed it.

New Pompous Asshole Magazine To Compete With Cigar Aficionado

February 25, 1998 | Issue 33•07

NEW YORK—Upscale consumers who enjoy cigars, wine, and "all the finer things in life" will have a new magazine to enjoy beginning next month when Pompous Asshole hits the stands. Targeted at the 23- to 60-year-old pompous-asshole demographic, the new monthly magazine is expected to compete directly with Cigar Aficionado for advertising dollars. "Pompous Asshole is the magazine of the good life," said publisher Paul Westman, "And, unlike Cigar Aficionado, we truly cover it all: From tips on choosing the right humidor to advice on where to gamble in Monte Carlo to the lowdown on the new Jaguar XJ8, Pompous Asshole is the magazine no rich prick can afford to be without."

Re: Cigar Aficionado - The Magazine

When CA first came out I had already benn smoking cigars for around 30 years. It was a delight just to see a magazine devoted to cigars. Personally, I never did relate to the magazine, but it did a lot to rebuild a dying market.

I never liked or believed the reviews. Taste is just too subjective to rate. It's nonsense to try. I like what I like.

I did somewhat enjoy the gentlemanly quality that CA brought to the scene. That being said I have not even looked at a copy in a few years. I always did enjoy the pictures however.
